City of Wilton Manors Community Affairs Advisory Board Meeting Minutes WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1, 2023 ▪ CALL TO ORDER: Michael Sansevero called the March 1, 2023 CAAB meeting to order at 7:00p.m. in the City Commission Chambers. ▪ PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Michael led the Pledge of Allegiance. ▪ ROLL CALL: Johnnie took roll call: Michael Sansevero, Robert Hadley, Carvelle Estriplet, Harrison C. Davies, Marc Marois, Scott Ballina, and new member Curtis Fedder were present. ▪ ADDITIONS/CHANGES/DELETIONS TO AGENDA: Robert made the request to remove the “CAAB cooperation/coordination with other city boards” discussion that he had requested from this and future agendas, the agenda was accepted with this change. ▪ PRESENTATIONS/SPONSORSHIP REQUESTS: a. There were no sponsorship requests submitted for this meeting. Mike addressed the matter of the CAAB recommended sponsorship of the Meghan Pearson Art Classes, and Meghan’s disappointment with the lack of City Manager approval; via an email from Johnnie, Meghan was encouraged to reach out to the City Manager should she wish to discuss or clarify this matter. Johnnie quoted Meghan’s email: “my confusion about the sponsorship being declined lies with the email I received from Mike Sansevero on 12/7/22 to confirm whether or not it had received approval and if I should move forward with noting the CAAB sponsorship on my marketing materials. He told me yes and sent me the CAAB logo.”, and stated that Mike should not have confirmed approval nor sent the CAAB logo – the logo file should come from the city/staff liaison. ▪ APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE MEETING OF FEBRUARY 1, 2023: Minutes approved unanimously. ▪ UPDATE FROM CITY LIAISON: Johnnie shared that he had emailed board members the old and proposed CAAB mission statement for their records and the benefit of new member Curtis, also the current new resident Welcome Guide; the $1,000 CAAB recommended sponsorship of The Cookout event was approved by the City Manager and sent to Finance for processing; the Women’s History Month honoree CAAB recommendation was on the 2/28 Commission Meeting agenda wherein the Commission approved moving forward with Proclamations in the March 14 th Commission meeting; also reported having emailed to board members an Age-Friendly Community 5-year accomplishments summary and the updated Age-Friendly Community Action Plan. ▪ UPDATE FROM CHAIR: Michael stated that he provided CAAB’s Women’s History Month honorees recommendation in the February 28th Commission meeting as Johnnie reported. ▪ PUBLIC COMMENTS: Resident Hunter Stephens was in attendance and addressed the new resident Welcome Guide; he stated that he provided to Scott what the Westside Association sends out to new residents, who are obtained from the new utility accounts listing provided by the city; additionally noted the challenge in reaching other new residents, such as renters; he supported the addition of the sports, cultural, and other links, and the addition of additional city events such as the movies, the concert series, and yard sales. He also recommended avoiding picking businesses to highlight. ▪ UNFINISHED BUSINESS: a.) New Resident “Welcome Wagon” (Marc/Scott) – recommended additions to the existing City Welcome Guide were addressed, adding sports league and cultural links, volunteer opportunities, a hurricane preparedness section, the lost pets Facebook group and voter registration and Broward Property Appraiser, homestead and other tax exemption links. Johnnie stated that linking for-profit businesses would most likely not be approved by the City Manager – and there is a City Resolution that approves specific non-profit organizations with which the city can co-sponsor events – the Board asked Johnnie to share this listing with them. Mike stated that while this leaves out a lot of organizations that residents would want to know about but noted that the Neighborhood Associations could promote these organizations – like theaters and art galleries. Mike asked Hunter what he thought of a supplemental cultural document that could be issued to new residents by the associations – Hunter acknowledge the opportunity but noted FINAL CAAB Meeting Minutes -1- Adopted: April 5, 2023 March 1, 2023 Meeting challenges with picking and choosing organizations to include and to keep the document updated. Scott volunteered to review the proposed additions to the Welcome Guide with reference to the approved non-profit listing – Scott will review and report back. Johnnie suggested looking at improving ways to better distribute the guide and not finetuning the guide to include all events and activities. Mike suggested leaving stacks of the guide at rental properties, nursing home lobbies, etc., but Johnnie noted that there is no budget to do a mass printing of this document. Marc suggested creating a coversheet flyer (the cover page of the guide) with a QR Code to view the document online – this flyer could then be distributed to rental properties and other locations – the same could be created for the Town Crier and other documents. b.) AARP Community Challenge Grant (Mike/Harrison) – Harrison reported that he reached out to Claudia Castillo, chair of WDID, and Mike reported that he attended a WDID meeting to report on this grant opportunity, specifically for bike racks, however, he was not aware of WDID moving forward on the initiative; due to the March 15 deadline this apparently will not happen this year but CAAB should keep this in mind for next year. ▪ NEW BUSINESS: a.) Skip Stadnik Community Spirit Award nominations – due March 31. Mike urged members to assist in the call for nominations which are due March 31st and will be reviewed in the April 4th CAAB meeting. Johnnie reported that the honorees will be recognized in the April Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon – the date has not yet been confirmed. ▪ COMMUNICATIONS TO COMMISSION: Mike gave the CAAB quarterly update to the Commission in its January 24 meeting, and recommended Women’s History Month honorees were presented February 28, which the Commission approved, and formal recognition is scheduled for the March 14 Commission meeting (which Mike encouraged CAAB members’ attendance). Next general quarterly update tentatively scheduled for April 25, 2023. Harrison asked how to confirm if his suggestions to Leisure Services Director Patrick Cann were shared with new Director Michelle Parks – it was suggested that Harrison reach out directly to Michelle. ▪ BOARD MEMBER REPORTS AND REQUEST FOR AGENDA ITEMS: None. ▪ NEXT SCHEDULED MEETING DATE: TUESDAY, April 4, at 7pm – Chambers (moved from Wednesday 4/5 due to Passover). ▪ ADJOURNMENT: Michael adjourned the meeting at 8:00p.m. Submitted by: Johnnie Goodnight - CAAB - Staff Liaison/Secretary Johnnie Digitally signed by Johnnie Goodnight DN: cn=Johnnie Goodnight, o=City of Wilton Manors, ou=City Manager's Office, Adopted 4/4/23; Attested to by: Goodnight email=jgoodnight@wiltonmanors.com, c=US __________________________________ Date: 2023.04.05 08:10:00 -04'00' Johnnie Goodnight, Staff Liaison/Secretary FINAL CAAB Meeting Minutes -2- Adopted: April 4, 2023 March 1, 2023
