Meeting Minutes
WEDNESDAY, MAY 3, 2023
▪ CALL TO ORDER: Michael Sansevero called the May 3, 2023 CAAB meeting to order at 7:02p.m. in the City
Commission Chambers.
▪ PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Michael led the Pledge of Allegiance.
▪ ROLL CALL: Johnnie took roll call: Michael Sansevero, Carvelle Estriplet, Robert Hadley, and Harrison C. Davies were
present; Curtis Fedder, Scott Ballina, and Marc Marois were absent. Johnnie reported that he had heard from both Curtis
and Scott that they would not be attending the meeting, but had not heard from Marc.
▪ ADDITIONS/CHANGES/DELETIONS TO AGENDA: The agenda was accepted as written.
▪ PRESENTATIONS/SPONSORSHIP REQUESTS:
a. None.
▪ APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE MEETING OF APRIL 4, 2023: Minutes approved unanimously.
▪ UPDATE FROM CITY LIAISON: Johnnie stated that as approved in the last meeting he submitted the
recommendation of the $1,000 Pride Fête sponsorship to the City Manager and it was approved and submitted to Finance
for processing; sent the Welcome Guide flyer/QR code to CAAB members – although this item may be tabled tonight
with Scott and Marc’s absence; prepared the Proclamations for Skip Stadnik Community Spirit Award honorees as
presented in the April 15 Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon and April 25 Commission meeting.
▪ UPDATE FROM CHAIR: Mike stated that while he was unable to make the Volunteer Luncheon; Robert, Harrison,
Curtis, Scott and Johnnie were there, and Mike did attend the April 25 Commission meeting.
▪ PUBLIC COMMENTS: Resident Jimmy Cunningham was in attendance but had no comments.
▪ UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
a.) New Resident “Welcome Wagon” (Marc/Scott) – Mike tabled this item to next month since Scott and Marc were
both absent from this meeting.
b.) Skip Stadnik Community Spirit Awards – as noted previously, these were presented in the Volunteer Appreciation
Luncheon and the 4/25 Commission Meeting.
c.) Pride Fête sponsorship – approved by the City Manager; Mike stated that he looks forward to a bigger and better
event this year.
▪ NEW BUSINESS:
a.) Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept 15-Oct 15) and LGBTQ+ History Month (Oct) – nominations of honorees will be due August
31, Johnnie will proceed with promoting in the Summer Town Crier and the city’s social media.
▪ COMMUNICATIONS TO COMMISSION: Mike stated that he provided a CAAB quarterly update in the April 25
Commission meeting during public comments since he was informed that a verbal presentation was not necessary and a
written report would suffice; he did not provide a written report and stated that he felt slighted and insulted. Mike noted
that he would do the same in the July 25th Commission meeting. Johnnie attempted to clarify that Mayor Newton is
attempting to streamline Commission meetings and even Commission member reports at the end of Commission
Meetings have been eliminated – the Commission did not make a request for quarterly CAAB reports, it was CAAB’s own
desire to provide these; but Mike stated that if the Commission can discuss rabbits for over 45 minutes then he can speak
for 3 minutes, and this is an afront to CAAB and the Commission is not respecting their advisory boards.
▪ BOARD MEMBER REPORTS AND REQUEST FOR AGENDA ITEMS:
Mike asked for comments or agenda items for the next meeting: Robert stressed the need for CAAB members to promote
the call for Hispanic Heritage and LGBTQ+ History month honoree nominations. Harrison raised the possibility of an
increase to the number of sitting CAAB members; Johnnie noted that the recent City Board Ordinance actually attempted

to reduce the number of CAAB members from 7 to 5 so he did not see that there would be support to increase from the
current 7. Harrison asked if there was an opportunity for CAAB presence at Stonewall – Robert asked what specifically,
and Harrison responded possibly on a float with the Commission. Mike noted other ways to participate – such as the
classic car club having cars in the parade and CAAB members on, in, or with these vehicles. Robert stated that there is a
significant cost involved. Harrison asked if the car shows would resume – Mike stated that the city would not cover the
$500 event cost, or city staff costs of approximately $2,000, so it became problematic.
▪ NEXT SCHEDULED MEETING DATE: Wednesday, June 7, at 7p.m. – Chambers.
▪ ADJOURNMENT: Michael adjourned the meeting at 7:30p.m.
