City of Wilton Manors Community Affairs Advisory Board Meeting Minutes WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2023 ▪ CALL TO ORDER: Robert Hadley called the November 8, 2023 CAAB meeting to order at 7:00p.m. in the City Commission Chambers. ▪ PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Robert asked Hunter Stephens to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. ▪ ROLL CALL: Johnnie took roll call: Robert Hadley, Curtis Fedder, Justin Gladney and Gene Stinson were present; Glenn Jenkins was absent at roll call but arrived at 7:15pm; Scott Ballina and Marc Marois were absent. ▪ ADDITIONS/CHANGES/DELETIONS TO AGENDA: The agenda was accepted as written. ▪ UPDATE FROM CHAIR: Robert directed attention to the Town Crier (there was a copy at each seat) and the upcoming CAAB call for nominations for Black and Women’s History months – he stressed that each CAAB member should be well versed in the Town Crier. ▪ UPDATE FROM CITY LIAISON: Johnnie reported that he sent out the link to info on the AARP Community Grant Challenge and shared that the Friends of Wilton Manors Parks (FWMP) group is working with Roger Cruttenden to apply for Rachel Richardson Park funding; LGBTQ+ History Month proclamations were presented in the October 10 th Commission meeting – that went very well, thank you to the CAAB members that attended; the 2023/2024 CAAB meeting dates were submitted to the City Clerk’s Office as approved in the last CAAB meeting. Robert stated that he does not think CAAB should compete with an AARP grant submission by the FWMP; Gene suggested CAAB support of the FWMP submission. ▪ PRESENTATIONS/SPONSORSHIP REQUESTS: a. Johnnie reported that the Sponsorship Request for a Jewish Film Festival was still pending; Johnnie reported that the submitter plans to submit a donation request via the city’s general Donation Request policy/application. ▪ APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE MEETING OF OCTOBER 4, 2023: The minutes were approved. ▪ PUBLIC COMMENTS: Resident Hunter Stephens spoke on the distribution of the 2nd edition of the In Plain Sight city art map – particularly to introduce it to the newest CAAB members – Justin, Gene, and Curtis. Jameer Baptiste of WMEG/HotSpots stated that he hopes to continue the CAAB and WMEG/HotSpots partnership that occurred in this year’s Black History Month promotion of honorees and also for WMEG/HotSpots to support the call for nominations of honorees for Women’s History Month. Jameer asked for a listing of past honorees – Johnnie will send that out to everyone. ▪ UNFINISHED BUSINESS: a.) Spooktacular Event – Monday, October 23 – 6:30-9pm, WMES – post event discussion. Several CAAB members attended the event which went very well and CAAB continued participation in this event was encouraged. b.) 2023/2024 Accomplishments/Goals report – due to City Clerk’s Office in November; Board approved the report with the revisions discussed in the October CAAB meeting. c.) 9/11 Event – host or sponsor 9/11/24 event such as ROTC/local veterans raising or lowering flag ceremony (Robert): Robert reported that he made an email recommendation to LS Director Michelle Parks that Leisure Services consider such an event next year; Michelle was receptive. d.) CAAB article in Town Crier – WM Spotlight On... (Marc) – Johnnie reported that Winter issue articles were due 10/31 and the issue will include CAAB’s call for nominations for Black & Women’s History Months honorees. ▪ NEW BUSINESS: a.) AARP Community Grant discussion – Johnnie reported that the web link was sent to Board members and also shared with the Friends of Wilton Manors Parks group. As previously noted, CAAB will support the FWMP submission. b.) Holiday Lighting Ceremony – The Board agreed to lead the pledge of allegiance at this event if asked. Johnnie reported that the event will be Thursday, December 7, 6:30pm at Justin Flippen Park – the evening after our December CAAB meeting.
