Meeting Minutes
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 7, 2024
▪ CALL TO ORDER: Robert Hadley called the August 7, 2024 CAAB meeting to order at 7p.m. in the Commission
Chambers.
▪ PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Robert led the Pledge of Allegiance.
▪ ROLL CALL: Johnnie took roll call: Robert Hadley, Gene Stinson, Justin Gladney, Ed Mossa and Josh Wiggin were
present. New member Emily McCrater was absent (she previously notified Johnnie via email).
▪ ADDITIONS/CHANGES/DELETIONS TO AGENDA: The agenda was accepted as written.
▪ UPDATE FROM CHAIR: Robert acknowledged appointment of new member Emily McCrater.
▪ UPDATE FROM CITY LIAISON: Johnnie reported that he worked with Gene to modify the Black History Month
Nomination Form for discussion under Unfinished Business.
▪ PRESENTATIONS/SPONSORSHIP REQUESTS: Pride Fête sponsorship request: Jameer Baptiste was present to
support the sponsorship request. Johnnie noted that discretionary City spending is frozen and the City Manager had already
determined that financial sponsorship would not be approved; but CAAB sponsorship approval would allow City support of
the event. Gene made the motion that CAAB be a co-sponsor of the event without financial support, seconded by Justin, the
motion carried unanimously.
▪ APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE MEETINGS OF JUNE 5: Minutes approved unanimously.
▪ PUBLIC COMMENTS: None.
▪ UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
a.) History Month Honoree Form (Gene) – review of draft revised form. Board members reviewed and discussed the draft
revised Black History Month Nomination Form. Josh recommended making the form more specific to Black History
Month, i.e., for Improved the quality of life of Wilton Manors residents, add especially within the Black Community;
same for issues of concern, artistic endeavors (particularly supporting Black artists/artistry), benefits of doing business,
serving as a mentor. Also add “especially within the Black community or to members of the Black community” to each
of the Leadership and Philanthropy goals as well. Johnnie will update the form, review with Gene and bring back to the
next CAAB meeting. Johnnie noted that the call for nominations is in progress for both Hispanic Heritage and
LGBTQ+ History Months and only 1 nomination has come in for LGBTQ+ Month, Josh suggested reaching out to past
honorees to solicit support in getting nominations; Johnnie will reach out to them.
▪ NEW BUSINESS:
a.) Senior Resource Guide – discussion of revision, promotion, and distribution. Josh recommended adding Circuit service
to the guide. Gene volunteered to get with Leisure Services to review/revise as needed the Senior Programs section; Ed
volunteered to review/revise the County, State, and Federal resources/contact information. Both will report back to
Johnnie with necessary changes and revise the document as needed.
▪ BOARD MEMBER REPORTS AND REQUEST FOR AGENDA ITEMS: Robert reflected on his time as CAAB
chair, vice-chair, and general member, and CAAB accomplishments over the years. Robert’s term ends September 1st and he
will not reapply to CAAB and has already been appointed to the Parks & Rec Board.
▪ NEXT SCHEDULED MEETING DATE: Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 7p.m. – Chambers.
▪ ADJOURNMENT: Meeting concluded at 8:01p.m.
