Library Advisory Board Meeting January 9, 2017 Meeting called to order at 5:35 PM Board Members Present: Carol Clark Barbara Gail Cuthbertson Jeffrey Ferraro, Chair Fred Johnson Bennett Quade Lillian Robertson Betty Winslow Betty Payton, Alternate Richard Sterling-Library Director Emily McCrater, alternate was absent Additions, Changes or Deletions to the Agenda: None Presentations: None Comments from the Public: None Presentations: None Approval of Minutes from October 24, 2016 Minutes moved for approval by Barbara Gail Cuthbertson and seconded by Bennett Quade. Passed unanimously. Unfinished Business: Remember, board member’s term expiring: Jeffrey Ferraro, Lillian Robertson and Carol Clark Library Director’s Report: (Oct-Dec. 2016)(See attached Report for Additional Information) • This past quarter library had 2,700 users with over 10,000 materials checked out. • About 800 check outs per week. • 12% of users are children. • About 599 attendees attended various events, including Island City Book Club, Reading with Dogs and Lego Club. • The Friends of the Library sponsored an author program and a virtual reality program was held at the library. • 3700 Computer Sessions equaling approximately 2000 hours. o 39% Adult o 27% Children o 14% Express-less than 15 minute sessions o Ten other languages used beside English • 42 Deliveries to homebound individuals. • Library staff participated in Spooktacular and Breakfast with Santa. • New Employee-Ellen Feiler-retired Department of Health Employee-resource for health. • FEMA provides funding to libraries because they consider it an essential service. New Business: Begin advertising meeting dates of Library Advisory Board Meeting or at least provide a quarterly update about the Library Advisory Board in the Town Crier. Ongoing discussion of the Annual Report continued at this meeting. All board members should come prepared to discuss items to include in the annual report during the next meeting to be held on April 10, 2017. “Florida Library As” - Rick Sterling discussed the State Library System is seeking what else can libraries do or looked at “as” what else do they provide. Library Board Members should come to next meeting to be held on April 10, 2017 to discuss. Request for Placement of Items on Next Meeting Agenda: Chair requested all attending members to bring to the next meeting one idea the board did or did not accomplish this year (FY 16-17 to be included in the advisory board’s third annual report. Report Items for Consideration and other items for consideration: 1. Homebound Delivery Program 2. Business Community-What Library Services do they want-Rick to talk to Roberta Moore on how to collect this type of information. 3. Carol Clark to hold another Focus Group as a follow up to last held focus group.
