City Council and Department Updates Chief Audy: Operation May day- to recruit, Winooski did not have anyone, many stations did not, Essex had 4. Survey forthcoming. Departments want to try to do again with a more concentrated effort potentially. A St. Mike’s graduate is now seeking employment and has been onboarded at Winooski FD. Council leadership has created a document for increased engagement with a more structured plan to provide more guidance V. Inclusion and Belonging Commission Liaison Updates N/A VI. School Resource Officer Program Update Police update via Jason Ziter: MOU is continuing for a resource officer for school- need to figure out what the role will look like. Transported a high school graduate to southern Maine and he will graduate in 2 years hopefully to return to Winooski. Second public safety camp about to happen to explore careers in public safety including non traditional roles. Game warden exploration of sand bar natural area. Colchester police and learning and all things marine safety and fire boat, search and rescue. Indian Brook reservoir, Colchester technical rescue and wilderness first aid and search and rescue. Jeffersonville canoe and kayak- 6 miles of Lamoille River. Middle to high school students accepted, program capped at 16, currently 12-13 signed up. 100% free to students, paid for by a grant (food and staffing costs). Will count as a community outreach function for police station (police officers required to do two a year). Ongoing discussion for what SRO (school resource officer) position will like into the future, what will physical day look like. 23-24 school year will be the same as currently, but will build into the position what new information/preferences/opinions incoming superintendent will provide.
