SUMMARY OF THE FIRE HOUSE BUILDING COMMITTEE MEETING: (2/24/25)
PRESENT: Karin Chavis, Jim Letterie, Kim Dimes, Paul Flanagan, Stephen Calandra,
Shannon Poulos, Jill Dorr, Joseph Hanlon, Jack Dempsey & Hannah Belcher
ABSENT: Marc Wallerce, Scott Wiley
CALL TO ORDER: 5:30PM

MINUTES WERE DISTRIBUTED AND APPROVED:
Karin Chavis asked that her name be spelled correctly in correspondence moving
forward..
KC asked to take the agenda out of order. Denise Quist swore in new members: Jack
Dempsey and Hannah Belcher. Both briefly introduced themselves.
GENERAL DISCUSSION: KC introduced revised drawings from Kaestle Boos.
Changes were noted, Fitness Center was put on second floor, there was discussion
about the generator being moved, Joseph Hanlon noted incorrect spelling of Larsen
Rink in the drawings, asked that it be fixed.
KC brought up actual cost of debt exclusion, not a big difference to taxpayer 25 vs 30
years
PUBLIC COMMENT OUT OF ORDER: Someone asked for clarification of debt
exclusion, KC explained that FY28 is when the taxpayers will see full effect. The new
proposed cost for this project is $38,480.00. 16% escalation cost is built into this figure.
Shannon Poulos asked if the website was up and running. There was general
discussion among the board about certain items on the website needing to be revised.
Chief Wiley will contact webpage designer to make changes.
The sign showing a rendering of the proposed Fire House has been hung on the old
middle school. When the ground thaws, Honan Sign Co will dig poles into the ground
and hang the sign where it’s more visible. At this time there are no plans to make lawn
signs.
Paul Flanagan will contact a printer and inquire about mailers.
Shannon Poulos asked if we have appraisals for the Shirley St and Pauline St. stations.
KC asked for someone to contact the town manager to ask for an appraisal for these
two pieces of property. JD will follow up.
SP wanted to know if these units would be sold as condominiums or would they be
apartments for rent. She thinks the community would want to know.
KC asked about coffee hours. Councilor Swope is hosting one on March 13th at 6PM at
Seal Harbor I
Steve Calandra to contact Matt Rhodes for possible coffee hour at the senior center,
Peg Lyons for Golden Drive
KC - we will remind the public that the open house at the fire station is adult only event
citing possible safety concerns for children.
JL we have approval from the state regarding the language on the ballot, a copy of the
ballot will be on the website soon.
KC Last day to register to vote for this election is March 25th. There will be no early
voting at the town hall. Absentee ballots are available on the Town Clerk website.
Residents are encouraged to call the Town Clerk’s office for any questions.
KC Reminder to get word out about hosting coffee hours. The PSA is another option for
people to consider hosting. Paul Flanagan would like to have an informational
sheet/FAQ’s to have available to hand out at coffee hours.
Kim Dimes asked if committee members were allowed to stand outside of stores in town
to campaign for new firehouse. JL approves for getting information out.
KC suggested next meeting date and time to be Monday, March 10th @ 5:30 in the
Harvey Room. All members agreed.
