Winthrop Firehouse Building Committee Meeting Monday, March 24 2025 – Harvey Room PRESENT : Scott Wiley, Karin Chavis, Stephen Calandra, Jim Letterie, Shannon Poulos, Joe Hanlon, Jack Dempsey, Jill Dorr, Kim Dimes, Hannah Belcher via zoom. Absent: Paul Flanagan, Marc Wallerce CALL TO ORDER: 5:30 ROLL CALL : PLEDGE OF ALLEGIENCE : MINUTES : Minutes from the March 10th meeting were approved PUBLIC COMMENT : Firefighter Kevin Gorman brought up lawn signs, how many we have from the election last year and where to strategically put them. He said there will be a “stand out” in front of the proposed new site for the firehouse on Thursday, April 3rd from 5p-7p NEW BUSINESS : Discussed recent coffee hour hosted by Councilor Swope at Seal Harbor 3 on March 13th. Another coffee hour planned for March 25th at the Senior Center with close to 30 people signed up. Jim Letterie (JL) noted that people are asking for clarification on the $38.5 million figure. He mentioned that other projects in town have come under budget, Karin Chavis(KC) noted that it’s important to have a good OPM to keep costs under control. Scott Wiley(SW) reiterated that this project can’t go over budget, it won’t be allowed. SW gave website updates. He said he would contact the Honan Sign to see if he could move the sign off the middle school and move closer to the sidewalk for better visibility. Mailers for Winthrop Votes were mailed out last week. JL: Reminded people to go to Winthropfirefighters.com website and utilize the page to assess individual tax increase. KC: Said observers are needed at the polls on voting day. SW: April 3rd @ 5:30 will be the last meeting before the election. He plans to send out a reverse 911 page to remind people to vote. SW to contact Woodside Hardware to ask about putting a message on their sign, also contact Steve Calla about using electric signs at the entrance/exits of town. JL: Reiterated voting day and time.
