Town of Woodside 2955 Woodside Road Woodside, CA 94062 Woodside Livestock and Equestrian Heritage Committee April 26, 2023 5:30 pm Final Meeting Minutes Call to Order 5:34 PM Roll Call: Members Present: Kristina Chancholo, Fentress Hall, Lexi Bartlo, Susie Dorsey, Diane Garcia, and Nancy Atkinson Members Absent: Melinda Stoker, John Matheny Guests: Melinda Cardinale and Dick Brown Approval of Minutes from March 22, 2023. Nancy Atkinson motioned to approve and Diane Garcia 2nd. Unanamously approved. Old Business: 1. Safety Projects – Discussion of or updates on existing projects concerning environment (flood, fire), wildlife, town operations a. Confirm completion of material for distribution and posting on construction sites. Melissa Cardinale confirmed this was started on March 22, 2023. b. Review of town responsibilities for policing parking on roadside trails. Clarification of TOW internal process for urgent response to request. We are advised to call the Sheriff’s non emergency line (650) 364-1811 if equestrian and pedestrian trails have cars parked on them. It has been reported that the Sheriff’s response time is 1-1.5 hours and there is concern that the response time is not adequate in dealing with the parking situation. Melissa Cardinale will look into this. Fentress Hall asked if there is something more LEHC or local equestrians can do when dealing with cars parked on theh trails. There aren’t any “No Parking” signs so this decreases the awareness even though the construction companies have the document about equestrian etiquette. Maybe we can put copies of these documents on the car windows? Let’s keep the discussion going on what we should do. This goes on the next agenda. 2. Educational Projects – Discussion of or updates on existing projects related to public outreach such as signage, website, booklets, publications a. Follow up to LEHC/ LAEG hosted educational forum. Melisssa Cardinale reported that the LAEG forum was well attended. Independence Hall was nearly full with 15-20 attendees via Zoom. She is happy to share the powerpoint and the meeting was also recorded. Keep this item on the next agenda. Public comment: Phillip Bellamy  mentioned that LAEG could always use funds to purchase much needed material and supplies. Perhaps fundraising could be on the agenda or a sub committee could be formed. Phillip said LAEG needs a sling and sled. b. Review new subcommittee projects and priorities. Public Outreach. Safety and Facilities. Melissa Cardinale reported that advisors may attend sub committee meetings and advise as a “public person.” Advisors could also attend the LEHC meetings via zoom and give feedback as a member of the public. The fiberglass horse has arrived and will have its debut at the May Day Parade on May 6th. New Business: 1. New member development. Progress. Plans. TOW will be receiving 2 LEHC applications from Philip Bellamy and Sharon Butler and they attended the meeting and introduced themselves. There is 1 additional member vacancy. There are some documents Fentress Hall brought to Melissa’s attention about distrubiting them to the LEHC members for education on LEHC history and review to included updated information. Such documents are the Equestrian Toolbox binder, the trifold pamphlet, and the Keeping Horses In Woodside document. Melissa will see what the TOW has in stock and bring them to the May LEHC meeting for members to review. This will go on the May agenda as “Review of existing committee publications.” 2. Volunteer Engagement Fair on June 6th, 4:30-6:00. The LEHC chair and/or co-chair will write a one page descrption and be available to answer any questions the volunteers may have. Keep this on the May agenda. Member Communications: Kristina Chancholo reported that WHOA! is looking for volunteers for the May Day Parade. WHOA! needs volunteers to pass out key chains, candy, and save the date cards for Day of The Horse during the parade. WHOA! will have a banner and some mounted riders in the parade as well as the fiberglass horse which will be mounted on a flatbed. Please contact Kristina if any volunteers are interested. The May Day Parade is Saturday, May 6th and volunteers will meet from 10 AM-12 PM.
