Roll Call: John Matheny, Lexi Bartlo, Nancy Atkinson, Fentress Hall, Meredith Wiedeman,
Susan Dorsey, Kristina Chancholo, Philip Bellamy
Absent: Melinda Stoker, Sharon Butler
Online: Dick Brown, Fire Marshal Kim Giuliacci
Town: Melissa Cardinale
Public Communications: None
Approval of Minutes from March 27, 2024. Nancy moved to approve the minutes, Susan
second. All in favor.
Old Business:
1. Health and Safety– Report from Subcommittee. Continuing discussion on
existing issues and town operations such as improper parking on trails, stabling,
environmental impact on livestock.
a. Meeting with town on guidelines for parking on trails, pending new staff.
Yaz on board, delay meeting until up to speed. Consider joint project with
Trails Committee. Nothing new to report
b. Review of barn permit inspection process and LEHC role in guiding staff,
committees, and residents. Sage’s proposal for LEHC, HSSC and ASRB
adopted but publication, education, next steps to be defined. We would
like to take what Sage provided and put it into action. Perhaps a dry run
would be useful to ensure everything is submitted correctly and any
feedback can be given. Staff will let us know when it is finalized by Sage
and staff and submit it to LEHC members.
2. Public Outreach – Report from Subcommittee. Continuing discussion on
existing issues related to educational projects such as signage, website,
publications, accomplishments of local equestrians. Subcommittee is meeting
4/25/24 for the below action items. Dick Brown mentioned that when he was at
the Trails Club meeting they talked about the number of horses in woodside
and how we can potentially disperse services, barns, etc. for those who want to
be involved with horses. We have a number of horses moving to Woodside over
the next few years and he asked about providing them equestrian lists. Fentress
will find a way to address that with the Public Outreach. They will add WHOA!’s
contact information to the Keeping Horses in Woodside booklet.
a. Status of revisions to booklet – Keeping Horses in Woodside. Heat,
temperatures in the barn is something they will put in as a footnote
where people can find additional information.
b. Status of FAQ booklet on navigating building process, update
c. Status of review of new website. John mentioned it was easy to navigate.
New Business:
1. Election of Chair and Vice Chair. Susan moved that John Matheny is Chair and
Lexi Bartlo is Vice Chair. All in favor.
2. Staffing and recruiting
3. Review WFPD Ordinance 24-01 regarding defensible space and how that
impacts stabling. Fire Department ordinance is not a Town ordinance. Fire
Marshal Kim Giuliacci will have a table from 4-6 at Ladera shopping center on
Thursday 4/25/2024. Kim said this ordinance does not need to go through any
approval but they are still reaching out to the residents of Woodside and
Portola Valley for their feedback. In the May Fire Board meeting this will be
adopted. The ordinance is on their website under “prevention” and it can be
read there. www.Woodsidefire.org. Public Outreach and Health & Safety
Subcommittee will review the ordinance.
