Mabel C.Fry Public Library Board Meeting Minutes Wednesday, October L7, 2Ot8 The meeting was called to order by lnez Andrews. Library Board members present were lnez Andrews, Margarete Albrecht, Jeanne Riggs, Joyce Roman, Lee Wells, and Sue Kilmer. The minutes were read and accepted. There were no staff chanses. Sara Schieman, OLA Library Division Chair this year, attended the leadership retreat held in Norman, Julv 26-27,20L8. Lindsay Ogle applied for the ALA "Great Stories Club"grant "Empathy" and received it, She traveled to Chicago for training in September. Public Librarv Certification Workshoos were hosted bv MCFPL in September oresentins "How to Think Like a Librarian." Wendy Burnett and Trisha Knous attended. Monthly Statistics show there were approximately 165 new cards issued each month during the months of July-September and 2026 patrons participated in programs. 2L97 wireless internet connections were recorded. The daily patron count resulted in approximately 383 patrons. During July and September Baby Story Fun and PreSchool Story Time were held twice weekly. Summer Reading, "Libraries RocK" held three weekly programs during July except for Movie Day. Movie shown was:Srng. Derick Brock presented Mad Science Racks Program. Local geologist Devin Denny spoke about rocks in one program and magician Steve Crawford presented a magic program. City Splash rewarded allthat read 30 or more books. The morning program, City Summer Camp and Childhood Learning Academy in the afternoon, were paid for by Canadian County Educational Facilities Authority funds. Mabel C. Fry library was in charge of the July 4ft Children's Parade with 30 entries and 52 children participating. September Programs for grades 1-5: Reading to Dogs, and Talk Like a Pirate Day. Staff dressed in character, told stories played games and made crafts. Also, Family Lego Night was held. Stephanie Askeland did outreach with monthly Story Time at TLC PreSchool Headstart and SonShine Preschool. Once a month, story- time is held at Chic- Fil- A with family programs. Young Adult programs were held for grades 6-12: Summer Reading "Libraries Rock" was held in July with Movie tay-Pitch Perfect lll. Science \vluseum Oklahomo Progrom,"science Recitol" þuilt instruments. "Rock ond Roll Over Deod" an interactive mystery was solved. Lip Sync Battle was held and o Pool Party was held for patrons reading more than 30 hours. ln September the teens enioved makine sllme with Slíme Foctorv. Outreach continues monthly with CCCIC Booktolks ond Cubelets program with A & B students. Adult programs included one-on-one technology programs. ln the Fall, Líbrorîes ßock was held weekly from 9/11-LOlt6. Larry Odell came from Oklahoma Historical Society and presented Oklahoma Music History. Donna Stangl-Jung from CC OSU Extension Center presented On the Road Again which was a program about making healthy food to take on the road. Hannah Shivers, artist's program was Mandelo Rock Painting. Great Americon Read was held at Spanish Cove on September 24. George Orwell's L984, Harbour Winn was the scholar from OCU who presented as a ODL program. Page Turners Book Club meets the second Saturday of the month; however, it did not meet in August. Each month Shawna takes books to Spanish Cove Book Club. The Library received an Edge Technology Gront in the amount of 54922.A0 from ODL. An AWE Elementary School Computer was purchased along with 5 ipads for children to use in- house and assistive technology. A large print keyboard, Ball mouse and Zoom software which can enlarge text and read websites to the visually disabled was also purchased. Friends of the Library Book Sales are the first and third Saturday of each month at the old library. The library has received its monthly statement from Unique Management, the third party collection agency that is assisting with obtaining overdue materials. As of September 30, the library has submitted 174 accounts for collection; the materials on these accounts are valued at S2S,Oll.qO. Of these accounts to date, we have received S1,86j..L8 for lost materials and have materials valued at 55,353.80 returned. ln addition to patrons who have paid for or returned materials due to collection action, many have become more diligent in returning items in a timely manner.
