Yukon Park Board Minutes Regular Meeting Wednesday , April 20 , 2022 6:00 P.M. Huckaba Building 532 W. Main The City of Yukon Park Board met for their regular meeting on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, 6:00 p.m. at the Huckaba Bldg., 532 W. Main, Yukon, OK. Roll Call : (Present) Joe Baumann, Ward 4 Stephen Nelson, Ward 2 Jason Hammett- At Large Absent: Joe Edwards, Cathy Wright Others Present: Chris Lucas, Ryan McClure, Shelly Selby and Andrea Griffin Item 1: Approval of the minutes Wednesday, February 16, 2022 Stephen Nelson moved to approve the minutes from February 16, 2022, Jason Hammett seconded the motion. The vote: Ayes: Baumann, Nelson and Hammett Nays: None The Vote 3-0 Motion Carried Item 2: Visitors/Special Guests Mayor Shelli Selby asked to speak since she was unable to stay for entire meeting. Mayor Selby asked Chris Lucas what the progress was on the Disc Golf Course that there was $22,000.00 allocated toward it. Chris stated it may be at Welch Park as there has been a proposal to have it at that location, he’ll have more information within the next three months. Item 3: Parks and Recreation Department Reports and Projects Updates Jackie Cooper Gym Summer is fast approaching, pre-k and youth will be able to keep busy with basketball, tumbling, soccer, basketball and youth pickle ball. Adults will have basketball, pickle ball including mixed doubles pickle ball. Restroom project completed, large storage area being utilized. One of City Council discussions last night was to have a design team put a plan in motion for the outside wall to be fixed properly. Yukon Community Center Homeschool classes such as cooking, photography and woodshop have continued to grow in numbers, up to 21 students. Kids Night Out has also grown from 4 enrolled to over 20 attending the last one. P. O. Annual Summer Friday Fun Days will include one of its favorites “Touch a Truck”. Mom & Tot art and sensory play classes will be offered along with our eight weeks of themed camp that we are currently hiring for Head Camp Counselor and Camp Counselors. Replacing double doors has been put on pause due to expense. Dale Robertson Center Programs at this facility consist of various levels of fitness classes, the arts, mystery lunch trips, day excursions such as museums or shopping trips. Special Operations We had a successful Taste of Yukon with 23 vendors and over 450 in attendance. Branded aprons were given to Frosted Cactus for Best Decorated Booth and Hawaiian Brothers for Best Tasting Food. Senior Games last week had 345 seniors enrolled to participate. Festival of the Child will be May 7th and at this time has 57 vendors involved. Athletics Youth baseball has been playing 4-5 nights a week to make up for inclement weather games with 2 upcoming tournaments. Two weeks ago Spirit League started to play, staff looks forward to that uplifting time. Aquatics We are cautiously optimistic about Kimbell Bay for this upcoming season, currently involved in a plumbing project. We will offer swim lessons, aerobics, have our swim team and pool rentals. We are in the midst of hiring a pool manager, head lifeguard, lifeguards, swim instructors, head swim coach and Aquatic fitness instructor. We have held job fairs at Yukon High School and colleges. Item 4: Open Discussion Stephen Nelson asked if Kimbell is unable to open for some reason, will City Splash be fully staffed and functional. Chris and Ryan both stated yes at this time. Stephen stated he can’t wait to see the fruit of all the hard work that Chris, Ryan and staff have put in. Chris stated that they are continuing to move forward on restructuring, policies & procedures handbook, mission and vision statements. Department running ahead on programming and continues to upgrade inadequate website but still will be able to go live May 2, 2022. Jason Hammett likes that department is getting organized and summer is almost here. Joe Baumann is excited for new management, upcoming events and warmer weather in general, wished the department best of luck for the upcoming year.
