Yukon Park Board Minutes Regular Meeting Wednesday , June 15 , 2022 6:00 P.M. Huckaba Building 532 W. Main The City of Yukon Park Board met for their regular meeting on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, 6:00 p.m. at the Huckaba Bldg., 532 W. Main, Yukon, OK. Roll Call : (Present) Joe Edwards, Ward 1 Joe Baumann, Ward 4 Stephen Nelson, Ward 2 Absent: Jason Hammett, Cathy Wright Others Present: Chris Lucas, Ryan McClure Item 1: Approval of the minutes Wednesday, May 18, 2022 Stephen Nelson moved to approve the minutes from May 18, 2022, Joe Baumann seconded the motion. The vote: Ayes: Baumann, Edwards and Nelson Nays: None The Vote 3-0 Motion Carried Item 2: Parks and Recreation Department Reports and Project Updates Director Chris Lucas started out by addressing how busy the beginning of the summer has been. With multiple new programs, summer day camp, Concert in the Parks, Friday Fun Days, aquatic facilities and other things happening, that the staff has been busy, but in a good way. Along with that, staff is starting to prepare for Freedom Fest, which is one of the largest events that the City of Yukon facilitates. Jackie Cooper Gym Ryan McClure, Assistant Director, stated that the Jackie Cooper started out the summer season with the introduction of a lot of new programs, including youth basketball camps, youth basketball skills clinics, youth archery, summer physical education, youth gymnastics, youth ukulele preschool playtime (activities for the 3-5 range) and youth pickleball. The majority of the programs have filled to their max. However, youth pickleball and youth ukulele had a little less interest, but there is hope that as the deadlines get closer, more people register. Yukon Community Center The Yukon Community Center has been very busy so far this summer. With each week of summer camp filling up (50 participants), there has been a lot of activity happening. All 8- weeks of summer camp filled up with 400 registrations. In addition, all the cooking programs, P. O. Kids Night Out continues to be very popular and maxes out at 30 kids per time we offer it. Friday Fun Days have started. We had a great turn out for both Touch a Truck and the Turtle Race. Upcoming, we have the popular fishing derby and dog show. We did move the time of the fishing derby to a little later to stay consistent with the rest of the Friday Fun Days. We are hoping that it doesn’t negatively impact the attendance or the fishing! The storage door project has almost concluded. We are just waiting for some additional caulking around the door. However, the rest of the project is good to go and we will start putting storage in there ASAP. Dale Robertson Center Seniors are enjoying their Monday-Friday lunches, programs and special events. We had the Senior Health & Fitness Day and had a great turnout of vendors and participants alike. Participants enjoyed learning about all of the opportunities around the community, as well as having the ability to lift some weights are play some Wii bowling. Upcoming, we have the Father’s Day Cookout on June 16th. It is supposed to be hot, but we expect a pretty good turnout! Special Operations Community Bike Ride had over 30 participants, which made it one of the largest biking events in recent years. Next year, the plan is to continue the Community Bike Ride on Memorial Day Weekend, as well as reinstitute the Bike to Work event. Concerts in the Park has started with Dakota Murillo on June 2nd and Irv Wagner on June 9. Upcoming, we have Steve Crossley on June 16 and Core Country on June 23. Route 66 Triple Tour will occur on Saturday, June 18. This is a joint event between Warr Acres, Bethany and Yukon. Yukon will be hosting a concert featuring Jimmy Dale Richardson and Dale Watson. Preparations for Freedom Fest continues. Staff is very excited to experience this upcoming event. All spring athletics has concluded and fall athletic registrations have started. We hosted the Grand Reopening of Kimbell Bay on Friday, May 27th with over 250 guests in attendance. It was an amazing experience for both staff and the community. On Saturday, May 28th, all aquatic facilities opened. We had a number of mechanical issues with pumps, but we were able to fix all of those. The splash pad continues to give us some trouble. We will be troubleshooting this until we get it up and running the way it is intended to. P. O. With that, the Parks and Recreation Department saw a 3% increase on the general fund allocation, as well as approximately $570,000.00 in Capitol Improvement dollars. The projects that are earmarked to be completed are an Aquatics Audit, DRC Partition Wall, DRC HVAC, YCC Exterior Renovation, YCC Parking Lot Lighting and both Kimbell/City Park Tennis Courts. Item 3: Open Discussion Stephen Nelson likes to hear that we are serving so many people in a variety of capacities. Looking forward to the upcoming events. Excited to see what is to come.
