Park Board Yukon Park Board Minutes May 15, 2024 The Yukon Park Board met in regular session at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, May 15th, at the Mary Huckaba Building, 532 West Main Street, Yukon, OK 73099. I. Call to Order Joe Baumann – Vice Chairman – Ward 4, called the meeting to order. II. Roll Call ROLL CALL: (Present) Joe Baumann – Ward 4 Stephen Nelson – Ward 2 Carrie Sharp – Ward 3 Tim Rhodes – At Large OTHERS PRESENT: Ashley Geddes, Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Kahlil Garner, Parks and Recreation Office Coordinator III. Visitors/Special Guests/Public Comments None IV. Approval of the minutes from March 20, 2024 The board began by reading the minutes from the April 17th meeting. Tim Rhodes moved that we accept the minutes, and Carrie seconded the motion. Passed. V. Parks and Recreation Department Report and Project Updates City of Yukon | P. O. Box 850500 | Yukon, OK 73085  Park Board Parks and Recreation Department Reports and Project Updates 1. Introduction a. Welcome Carrie Sharp to the Park Board 2. Staff Work Overview a. Special Projects crew has been working on repairing Christmas displays and our stage. They also helped with setup and cleanup of our large tents and stage for Festival of the Child. b. Parks Maintenance has been spraying the parks, watering sod and new trees, working flowerbeds, mowing, weedeating, repainting parking lots, and working on numerous park projects. c. Special Events staff coordinated Festival of the Child and are now preparing for the Community Bike Ride, Concerts in the Park, and Freedom Fest. d. Athletics staff are maintaining fields and running the youth baseball, tball, and softball leagues on weeknights. e. Aquatics staff are working on summer hiring, training lifeguards and staff, facility preparations and projects, and prepping for the summer season. f. Facility staff are operating facilities, running programs, and working on facility projects. The YCC runs Friday Fun Days, and JCG coordinates Spirit League programs. g. Admin staff have been working on various facility and park projects and the general and capital budgets. 3. Projects a. Recently Completed Projects i. Kimbell pool painting ii. City Splash hydro blasting, concrete repair, and painting iii. Sunrise Splashpad conversion to passthrough system iv. Chisholm the Cheetah mascot v. Jackie Cooper Gym court naming/dedication b. Current Projects i. Freedom Trail Playground and Splashpad 1. Rudy Construction is working through numerous project fixes prior to opening a. Concrete, drainage, splashpad 2. June 30th grant deadline – have to be done by then ii. DRC HVAC Project City of Yukon | P. O. Box 850500 | Yukon, OK 73085  Park Board 1. Install completed, just going through calibration and testing now iii. Kimbell chemical storage area – concrete completed, new chemical storage containers added, fencing will go in on 5/20 iv. Parks and Recreation van wrap 1. Final approval given for design, being installed today v. Hilcrest pavilion/shade cover and swings 1. Ordered and waiting for them to arrive vi. JCG automatic door project 1. Equipment ordered, will be installed soon vii. Pavilion updates 1. Sunrise Park and Welch Park c. Upcoming Projects i. YCC 1. Interior renovations (doors) 2. Exterior renovations a. Delayed until next year; waiting to see if funding is approved for this for next year 3. Basketball goal lifts and backboard replacements a. Battled the rain but had a great event with >70 vendors and >90 activity areas 2. Chisholm the Cheetah unveiled (video) b. Upcoming Events i. Community Bike Ride – 5/18 ii. Will be used by the Special Projects team to install and take down Christmas displays b. Irv Wagner dedication invite – May 30th at 4 pm VI. New Business None VII. Open Discussion a. Carrie Sharp is excited about the new programs and the playground updates. b. Tim Rhodes is impressed with everything happening and enjoyed Chisholm the Cheetah and the Senior Games. Happy to see passion from the staff. c. Stephen Nelson – Excited about summer coming and the programs. Appreciates the hard work with the pools and April Taylor Dedication and stated it was a great event. d. Joe Baumann is going to try to make Irv Wagner’s Dedication and plans to continue to support Parks and Recreation Department. VIII.
