Minutes THE TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION THE TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON JANUARY 14, 2020 AT THE CENTENNIAL BUILDING IN THE CITY COUNCIL CONFERENCE ROOM. THE MEETING WAS HELD AT 6:30 PM. INVOCATION: Charlie Lee FLAG SALUTE: In unison ROLL CALL: Fred Cleaver James Montgomery Tom Thomas Brad Downing Charlie Lee CITY OFFICIALS: Doug Shivers, City Clerk Jason Beal, Deputy City Clerk ITEM 1: DISCUSS AND APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 12, 2019 TRAFFIC COMMISSION MEETING. Motion for minutes to be approved: Motion – Tom Thomas Second – Brad Downing The motion passed unanimously. ITEM 2: VISITORS - None ITEM 3: STAFF UPDATES ON TRAFFIC ISSUES/PROJECTS Regarding the concern with the posted different speed limits in the school zone of the high school on Yukon Parkway, Mr. Shivers stated the reason northbound posting 45 MPH and southbound posting 35 MPH, was the City of Oklahoma City was responsible for the east side of the road. Traffic Commission – January 14, 2020 Page 2 Discussion was held on whether to make the both sides of the road 35 MPH or 45 MPH. Mr. Lee and Mr. Downing both agreed they prefer both sides to be marked 45 MPH. Mr. Montgomery spoke about the issues of crosswalks at the time of planning for the new high school and had concerns 45 MPH may be too fast going over the railroad tracks. Motion to change the 35 MPH sign in question at the beginning of the school zone for southbound traffic to 45 MPH to match northbound traffic: Motion – Charlie Lee Second – Brad Downing The motion passed unanimously. Updates on current projects were discussed including the turn lanes at Health Center Parkway & Garth Brooks Blvd.; Highway 4 and the Frisco Road I40 Interchange. ITEM 4: DISCUSS TRAFFIC CONCERNS Mr. Lee and Mr. Cleaver stated the northbound left turn light at the high school stays on. Mr. Lee stated the northbound left turn light at Main and Parkway stays on and striping is needed at Lakeshore Drive and Hwy 66. Mr. Montgomery would like to see striping work done at: Yukon Parkway from Ranchwood to Hwy 66; NW 10th from Garth Brooks Blvd. to Yukon Parkway. He stated the speed limit sign is in the school zone at St. John’s Catholic School on Garth Brooks Blvd. Mr. Downing and Mr. Thomas had no concerns. ITEM 5: DATE FOR NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be Tuesday, February 11, 2020. ITEM 6: ADJOURNMENT
