Minutes THE TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION THE TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON JUNE 9, 2020 AT THE CENTENNIAL BUILDING IN THE CITY COUNCIL CONFERENCE ROOM. THE MEETING WAS HELD AT 6:30 PM. INVOCATION: James Montgomery FLAG SALUTE: In unison ROLL CALL: Fred Cleaver James Montgomery Tom Thomas Brad Downing (Absent) Charlie Lee (Absent) CITY OFFICIALS: Doug Shivers, City Clerk Jason Beal, Deputy City Clerk ITEM 1: DISCUSS AND APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE MARCH 10, 2020 TRAFFIC COMMISSION MEETING. Motion for minutes to be approved: Motion – Fred Cleaver Second – Tom Thomas The motion passed unanimously. ITEM 2: VISITORS - None ITEM 3: DISCUSS TRAFFIC CONCERNS Mr. Cleaver stated the left turn North & South light is on with no cars at Main Street and Yukon Parkway. In addition, the light at Independence Intermediate School changes to green for north/south traffic when no cars are coming out of the neighborhood. He stated he also received a call from Council Member Gilliland regarding the possibility of replacing him. Traffic Commission – June 9, 2020 Page 2 Mr. Shivers explained how appointments to the commission work. Mr. Montgomery stated they serve at the will of the council. Mr. Montgomery stated he is willing to sit down with the City Council to discuss neighborhood traffic issues, notably stop sign. He stated an example of stop sign placement in a neighborhood would be Westbury. Discussion was held on accidents, liability, etc. Mr. Montgomery stated he spoke with the Main Street group regarding painted crosswalks. He researched and could not find highway examples because they are slick when wet and the maintenance required. ITEM 4: DATE FOR NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be Tuesday, July 14, 2020.
