Minutes THE TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION THE TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON JANUARY 12, 2021 AT THE CENTENNIAL BUILDING IN THE CITY COUNCIL CONFERENCE ROOM. THE MEETING WAS HELD AT 6:30 PM. INVOCATION: James Montgomery FLAG SALUTE: In unison ROLL CALL: James Montgomery Charlie Lee Tim Peters Brad Downing Tom Thomas (Absent) CITY OFFICIALS: Doug Shivers, City Clerk Jason Beal, Deputy City Clerk ITEM 1: DISCUSS AND APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 10, 2020 REGULAR TRAFFIC COMMISSION MEETING Motion for minutes to be approved: Motion – Charlie Lee Second – Brad Downing The motion passed unanimously. ITEM 2: VISITORS - None ITEM 3: DISCUSSION REGARDING A CITIZEN’S REQUEST TO CLOSE BRYCE CANYON COURT IN PARKLAND 2 AT 10TH STREET Mr. Shivers stated that both Fire and Police expresses their concerns with closing the street. Both departments recommended against the closure due to emergency access. Traffic Commission – January 12, 2021 Page 2 Commissioners held a detailed discussion on the recommendations from Police and Fire. Mr. Lee stated the Commission can revisit the request once the development is built. ITEM 4: DISCUSS TRAFFIC CONCERNS Mr. Downing inquired about the possibility of right hand turn lanes at the intersection of Vandament and Cornwell to help with traffic flow. Mr. Peters had no concerns. Mr. Lee stated the following lights were on with no traffic present: East/west at Ranchwood & Yukon Parkway; the light allowing cars to exit YHS; North/south at Cornwell & Main Mr. Montgomery stated the east/west left turns at Yukon Parkway & Main were locked on as well as the Cherrywood & Vandament light. He would like to see striping done on 10th street from Yukon Parkway to Garth Brooks and on Yukon Parkway from Hwy 4 to Main. The idea is similar to the diverging diamond interchange at Elk City. Mr. Shivers stated work has started on the traffic improvement projects on Garth Brooks Boulevard. ITEM 5: DATE FOR NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be Tuesday, February 9, 2021.
