MEETING MEMORANDA
I. OPENING
A. CALL TO ORDER: President Kristin Vargo called the meeting to
order.
B. MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE: President Kristin Vargo, Vice
President Josh Garrett, Commissioner Bob Kuzman
C. MEMBERS NOT IN ATTENDANCE: Commissioner Graig
Collings
D. OTHERS IN ATTENDANCE: Chief of Police Michael Spears,
Captain Drake Sterling, Captain Marius Klykken, Mayor John
Stehr, Brad Burk, Heather Harris, Legal counsel for the Board of
Police Commissioners, Tiffany Diefenderfer
II. NEW MEMBERS SWORN IN AND APPOINTMENTS:
A. Brad Burk was sworn in by Mayor John Stehr.
B. Commissioner Kristin Vargo made a motion to appoint Josh Garrett
as President of the Board. Commissioner Bob Kuzman seconded the
motion. All in favor. Motion passed with a 4-0 vote.
C. President Josh Garrett made a motion to appoint Kristin Vargo as
Vice President. Commissioner Bob Kuzman seconded the motion.
All in favor. The motion passed with a vote of 4-0.
III. APPROVAL OF THE FOLLOWING MEETING MEMORANDA:
A. President Josh Garrett made a motion to approve the August 21,
2023, Meeting Memoranda as submitted. Vice President Kristin
Vargo seconded the motion. All in favor. The motion passed with a
vote of 4-0.
IV. OLD BUSINESS
A. None.
V. NEW BUSINESS
A. None.
VI. OTHER MATTERS
A. Captain Sterling provided an update on the current recruiting
process. In 2023, ZPD was awarded two full time positions and
there is currently 1 vacancy. The recruiting process was started on
November 8 and the application process was closed on December 7.
Captain Sterling provided an overview of the upcoming dates for
testing and command staff interviews. There is a tentative hire date
of April 22, 2024.
VII. ADJOURN
President Garrett made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner
Burk seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion passed with a vote of 4-0.
The next regular Board of Police Commissioners meeting is scheduled for
Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 8:00 am or upon the conclusion of the Town
Council meeting.
