Zionsville Pathways Committee Meeting

April 20, 2021 Pathways Committee Meeting Minutes Members Present: Quincy Cunningham, Maria Jose Deras Solorzano, Justin Hage, Emily Makinson, Mark McDonald, Craig Melton, Sarah Moore Also Present: Jarod Logsdon, Parks and Recreation Superintendent and Amy Lacy, Municipal Relations Coordinator The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. 1. Introductions Committee members and Town staff introduced themselves, sharing their backgrounds and positions with the group. Justin Hage was selected as Chairman of the committee; Quincy Cunningham was selected as Co-Chair, and Emily Makinson was selected as Secretary. 2. Background on the Committee Justin Hage shared some background on the committee and said that he had multiple documents from former committee chair, Bret Brewer and would attempt to scan and share what documents he could. It was decided that hard copy documents could be stored with Sarah Moore at the library and possibly moved to Town Hall when it reopens after remodeling. Amy Lacy said she would send some basic background information to all committee members. 3. Ideas from 2020 & 2021 Many ideas were shared and discussed, including: • Sponsorship of Pathways • A “Trailfest” event similar to Creekfest • Trail apps – our own or tagging on to a general app • Incentives for trail usage  • Including Waterways – additional, better drop in spots for kayaks • Jarod Logsdon said that the Elm Street Green launch was on the master Plan to be improved. • Walking events • Trail Ambassadors 4. 2021 Priorities • Pathway within a mile of every household, every neighborhood to have access to a trail to easily walk to a pathway – talk to HOAs to get their support • Connect parks, library, other amenities • Create 10-year list of pathway priorities • Identify short term goals and long term plan 5. Guest Speaker: Jarod Logsdon, Superintendent, Parks and Recreation Jarod shared his background and said many initiatives of the Pathways Committee interconnected with Parks and Recreation. He expressed his willingness to stay involved with the committee. 6. Other • It was agreed that committee members would read the 2016 Plan and brainstorm at the next meeting. • Location and dates of future meetings were discussed. It was agreed that it might be beneficial to meet outdoors in a park such as Elm Street Green next time and that the Zoom option could also be offered for those unable to attend in person. • Amy Lacy said she would continue to help schedule meetings and post meeting notices, agendas, and minutes. • It was decided that meetings would be scheduled for the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. • It was decided to invite Lance Lantz, Director of Public Works, to the next meeting. 7. Adjourn Meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:30 p.m. Next meeting will be Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom and physical location to be determined.
