ZIONSVILLE SAFETY BOARD
MEETING MEMORANDA
For
May 28th, 2013
Zionsville Town Hall

1. OPENING
A. Call meeting to order –President Steve Mundy called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m.
Board members present: Steve Mundy, Jeff Papa & Susana Suarez
Members absent: None
2. MEETING ITEMS
A. Approval of minutes from the April 29, 2013 and May 3, 2013 meetings: Mr. Papa motioned to approve the
April 29th, 2013 and May 3, 2013 minutes, Ms. Suarez seconded, all were in favor and motion was passed.
B. Old Business:
None
C. New Business:
a. 106th Street Speed Limit: A request was made jointly by the Village Residents Association and the
Zionsville Road Property Owners Association to increase the speed limit on 106th street. A lengthy
discussion was held. President Mundy suggested tabling the topic and asking for input from Street
Superintendent Lance Lantz after he looks at the appropriateness of 40mph throughout the Andrade Park
area. He also suggested making Carmel aware that we are considering a change to 35 or 40 mph. Ms.
Suarez so motioned, Mr. Papa seconded, all were in favor and motion was passed.
b. Driveway Cut – Ash Street: Resident Greg Trana of 40 Bailey Ct. has requested a driveway cut off of Ash
Street. Mr. Papa motioned to approve the driveway cut on Ash Street. Ms. Suarez seconded, all were in
favor and motion was passed.
c. Bike pathway route through village: The Pathway Committee has proposed a system of share-roads and
signage that would help those that come to the Laurel Street end of the Railtrail to find the downtown
business district and vice-versa. Street Superintendent Lance Lantz reviewed a powerpoint presentation of
the proposed routing and signage. The Board suggested adding signage to the proposal to include
information on a route back to the railtrail from downtown. Street Superintendent Lance Lantz stated they
will incorporate information to get people to Pine Street to route back to the railtrail. Ms. Suarez motioned
to approve the proposal for routing and signage, Mr. Papa seconded, all were in favor and motion was
passed.
d. Fire Equipment Fund: Chief VanGorder noted that in 2013 this year the Town lost its equipment
replacement fund for the fire department by a technicality from the DLGF. We are working through the
process to get those funds back.
e. Dog Attack: President Mundy noted that due to a recent dog attack the Village Residents Association would
like the Safety Board to look at a satisfactory way to quarantine dogs that have been involved in an attack.
This may be on a future Safety Board Agenda.
