Zionsville Tree Board

PZAZ Minutes 8:30 a.m. May 17, 2023 Zionsville Town Hall Tangoe Conference Room 202 1100 West Oak Street The meeting was conducted onsite. All members participated in person. Present: Greta Sanderson, Michal Owens, Amy Lacy, Justin Wagoner, Roger Collins, Brad Burk I. Attendance taken 8:30 a.m. II. Approved minutes from April 19, 2023 meeting III. Update on initiatives and committee responsibilities a. Ordinances and Preservation: Pauline i. Pauline is working on updating this. We will update our website with “recommended list” of trees now before official ordinances are updated. b. Events: Michal i. Zionsville Greenfest was a success despite the weather not being ideal. We were able to give out more than 75 red oak trees with maintenance and care information. We also soft-launched the Z’ Tree of the Year contest. ii. Z’ Tree of the Year is currently accepting submissions. We will record promotional video in the next week or two in order to raise awareness. Eagle Elementary has expressed interest in being involved with the video, as their first graders have become very attached to last year’s Z’ Tree of the Year and they are enthusiastic about the benefits of trees. iii. Fall Festival- We signed up to have a float in this year’s Fall Festival parade. It is free for non-profit groups. We will start working on design and theme now. c. Tree City Designation: Roger i. Roger is receiving lots of inquiries this spring about which trees to plant. d. Outreach: Justin  i. We set our goals for HOA outreach, which are: educate residents about recommended/not recommended tree and plant lists and offer a brief presentation and Q and A at their annual meetings. ii. We will share our powerpoint presentation with each HOA and create a one-page info sheet to give concise information with a QR code to our website for more info. iii. We made a list of requested updates for our website on the town page including powerpoint presentation and recommended tree list. iv. Michal plans to set up a meeting with Kris Deveraux to see how we can help incorporate some projects about trees in the schools, potentially artistic projects in conjunction with STEM lessons. IV.
