Zionsville Tree Board

PZAZ Minutes 8:30 a.m. March 20, 2024 Zionsville Town Hall Tangoe Conference Room 202 1100 West Oak Street The meeting was conducted onsite. All members participated in person. Present: Greta Sanderson, Michal Owens, Pauline Coderre, Ellen Dennehy, Dan Bradley, Roger Collins, Amy Lacy, Mike Dale I. Attendance taken at 8:30 AM II. Approved February minutes III. New business a. Follow up from Boone County Invasives Cooperative presentation b. Tree Board training i. Look at dates and see if people can attend c. Voted to change board name from People of Zionsville for the Aesthetics of Zionsville to Zionsville Tree Board in order to simply group title and eliminate confusion. We are not sure the process to make this change legally. Amy will discuss procedure with town attorney. There has been confusion on social media about Zionsville having a Tree Board and being a Tree City, which is primary motivation for name change discussion. IV. Update on Initiatives and committee responsibilities a. Ordinances and Preservation- Pauline i. Pauline presented progress of subcommittee 1. Pauline has been working on ordinance changes recommended by Lance Lantz 2. Dan has been updating Recommended/Not Recommended Tree List based on DNR recommendations and lists compiled by other municipalities 3. Michal has contacted graphic designer, Deputy Mayor and Council member Tim McElderry to update on progress and seek guidance on next steps. Some contact will need to wait until new Communications Director begins next month. ii. The subcommittee has split work into phases: 1) Updating tree list 2) Create planting guide similar to other municipalities to share as a resource for citizens 3) Updating tree-related ordinances and creating strawman to identify holes within ordinances that need additions  b. Events- Michal i. Greenfest 1. Michal filled out application to host a booth 2. Parks department ordered saplings from DNR for us: Black Gum trees. Ellen created an informational flyer for recipients of tree. 3. Members of committee will cover booth in shifts V. Zionsville Fall Festival a. They announced theme for this year: At the Movies b. We discussed incorporating famous movie tree into our float this year- Possibly Wizard of Oz VI. Meeting Adjourned 9:35
