The meeting was conducted onsite. All members participated in person.
Present: Greta Sanderson, Michal Owens, Pauline Coderre, Ellen Dennehy, Dan Bradley, Roger
Collins, Amy Lacy, Kate Swanson, Kaitlin Watson, Mike Dale, Josh Martin

III. New business
a. Tree Board Training 2024
i. Look up dates, and sign-up whomever can attend. Pauline, Michal, and
Dan will try to attend in Martinsville in June.
ii. Mark your calendar for December 3, 4 for the 2024 Indiana Urban
Forestry Symposium held at Crown Hill Cemetery & Arboretum in
Indianapolis. Agenda and registration will be announced soon.
b. Name change
i. Greta will write memo to Town Council explaining the name change
request and to be considered before May Town Council meeting. This will
be sent in by April 25th.
IV. Update on initiatives and committee responsibilities
a. Ordinances and preservation
i. Pauline pulled up some of the ordinance rewording and tree
recommendation lists the subcommittee has been working on. We also
pulled up examples from neighboring communities to show the Deputy
Mayor and Communications Director what we feel would be a good goal
for Zionsville.
ii. The subcommittee explained the multi-phase approach to providing
resources for town residents and new developments to help improve
planting practice and preservation. The first phase is updating our outdated
tree recommendation list. It will be approved by the DNR after completed.
iii. The board reiterated that we are just an advisory board who makes
suggestions to support Town Council, Planting and Building Department,
and Public Works.
b. Tree City Designation
i. Deputy Mayor asked about the Arbor Day Proclamation required of a Tree
City. We discussed doing a live event on social media with the Mayor.
Pauline and Michal will meet with Kaitlin next week about
communication practice and improving website/social media presence for
PZAZ.
c. Events- Michal
i. Zionsville Greenfest
1. Greenfest is next Saturday! Some members will be there for a shift
and some will attend the entire event.
2. Black Gum trees will be at the event, provided by the Parks
Department. Ellen created a flyer, explaining the lore behind the
tree and care instructions. We will pass out saplings, biscuits with
tupelo honey, and “More Trees Please” stickers. We will also try to
promote our mission and explain our role as a tree board, which is
to promote urban forestry.
3. We need to also update our Tree of the Year flyer, so we can soft
launch that campaign at Greenfest. We also discussed updating the
link for submissions on the town website. This will be addressed at
the meeting with Kaitlin next week.
4. Michal will bring tablecloth, table, stickers, Tree of the Year flyer.
Greta will bring tent. Ellen will bring biscuits and tupelo honey.
ii. Tree of the Year
1. We will launch our third annual Tree of the Year campaign at
Greenfest.
2. New submission page must be created, then a new QR code can be
added to the flyer. Instead of using graphic designer we will update
it. Kaitlin will make a social media post after Greenfest to promote
the campaign.
iii. Fall Festival
1. We plan to be part of the Fall Festival parade again.
2. The theme is “At the Movies”
