Zionsville Tree Board

PZAZ Minutes 8:30 a.m. May 15, 2024 Zionsville Town Hall Tangoe Conference Room 202 1100 West Oak Street The meeting was conducted onsite. All members participated in person. Present: Greta Sanderson, Tim McElderry, Michal Owens, Pauline Coderre, Dan Bradley, Roger Collins I. Attendance taken at 8:33 AM II. Approved April minutes III. Update on initiatives and committee responsibilities a. Ordinances and preservation: Pauline i. Discussion about ordinances changing via Town Council to ensure PZAZ is reporting to the correct department. Tim will keep us updated on this matter. The committee feels that we would best fit with Department of Public Works, which Tim will relay to the Council. ii. Tree/shrub/grass planting list almost complete. We will send to someone at DNR to approve and talk to Kaitlin about how to publish this as a resource for residents to reference. iii. Roger relayed that a neighborhood has been waiting to remove trees and replace until we update our recommended tree list. We are making this task our priority. The subcommittee made the firm deadline of July 31st, but will try to have it complete much sooner. iv. We discussed requesting a budget. We will research what similar towns have for their budget. We do have the ability to apply for grants.  b. Events: Michal i. Greenfest update- Greenfest went very well. We were able to pass out all of the saplings and lots of Tupelo honey. We were able also discuss our mission as a tree board to attendants and network with other groups from the community. ii. Tree of the Year update- We launched this at Greenfest and it was posted on the town social media pages on April 29. We will check with Kaitlin on the number of submissions and how to promote the campaign. After looking how some other towns do their Tree of the Year program, we feel adding a voting component for residents would help improve the community building component. We will also discuss how to do this with Kaitlin. iii. Tree City designation- no update for now IV. Old Business a. Tree Board Training- Pauline, Dan, Michal plan to attend the Martinsville training in June b. Rename PZAZ- this is still in the works. We will refer to our committee as “PZAZ, Zionsville’s Tree Board” V. Adjourn: meeting adjourned at 9:20. Greta has major surgery this summer, so we are changing June meeting to June 26. July 17th meeting will stay the same for now.
