Updates on initiatives and committee responsibilities a. Events- Michal i. Fall Festival 1. We have decided to just have a booth instead of a parade float and booth until our name change is official. 2. For the booth, we will come up with some tangible tips for people to use for tree planting, pruning and preservation. 3. Michal will fill out booth application. ii. Z’ Tree of the Year 1. Kaitlin sent a PDF with the submissions and pictures. Some are from last year. We chose top three submissions. Michal will email those who submitted, to make sure they are okay with being in the community vote, talk to Kaitlin about setting that up. 2. We think it will be great for community building to share the stories along with the photos, and have residents engage in voting. b. Ordinances and preservation- Pauline and Dan i. Recommended Tree List 1. It has been given the stamp of approval from DNR. We pulled up the list and decided to make a few last minute changes/adjustments before passing it along to Lance for his notes. These include: a. Which would we like to add to “Prohibited” in ordinances at some point, as this is different than trees that are considered undesirable or not recommended b. Decide what to name “Undesirable” c. Update with definition of what makes a desirable “street tree” d. Edit “notes” column explaining why plants are undesirable c. Grants i. We discussed the process of applying for grants and how that would be a good way for our group to have resources to promote urban forestry and do some of the events and community outreach that other towns’ tree boards are doing. ii. Greta asked if we could split up the burden of applying. Pauline will set up a file on the Box to organize grants that we find. Michal will help with writing the applications. iii. Greta asked Josh to help with finding matching donors if we receive grants- many of them are matching up to a certain dollar amount. IV. Adjourn meeting at 9:30am
