Mayor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities Minutes Meeting Date: Tuesday, June 21, 2016 Start Time: 12 p.m. End Time: 1 p.m. Location: City Hall 2nd Floor Conference Room Purpose: Regular scheduled meeting Attended: Sarah Johnson, Nancy Kelsey, Becca Wells, Sandi Glover, Tom Wanttie, Marianne Dale, Deloris Stusiak, Susan Hook, Holly Gederos, Kristi Myhre, Dalita Meyer, Laura Stoltenburg, Eric Vetter Absent: Cindy Kirschman, Steve Kelsey, Deb Kambel, Ardell Fiedler, Dawn LaMee, Ted Kneebone, Cody Roggatz, Mendy Jones, Kris Fastenau, Krista Bau, Craig Eschenbaum 1. Standing Items 1.1 Any additions to agenda? Promotion Request Fund- committee members were invited to stay after the meeting and provide input on the request or to give any ideas to Laura Stoltenburg or Doris Stusiak. 1.2 Review and approve minutes from May 2016 meeting - Marianne Dale moved to approve the minutes, seconded by Sarah Johnson. Motion carried. 1.3 Review and approve Treasurer’s report from May 2016 –Laura Stoltenburg updated the Committee with the current budget sheet. The Committee’s available balance is $1,449.90 with an additional $1, 067.90 designated to the ADA “run” balance and $303.50 designated for Barrier Awareness Day (BAD) expenses. Laura noted that there are some approved expenditures totaling $624.65 that have not been deducted from the balance. Motion to approve report by Tom Wanttie, seconded by Eric Vetter. Motion carried. Discussion about the Promotion Request Fund led to a motion by Tom Wanttie to request an additional $1500 for marketing purposes for the Committee. Motion was seconded by Kristi Myhre. Motion carried. 2. Committee Reports 2.1. BAD (Need to approve Autism group and Fallout payments here) Tom Wanttie moved to approve $50 for the Autism group and $50 for Fallout Creative Community out of the general budget for expenses at Barrier Awareness Day event. Motion was seconded by Becca Wells. Motion carried. 2.2. Partners in Community Pride –No report 2.3. Transportation – The handrail at the RideLine office is officially complete. RideLine will be making 2 trips/day to Summit to connect people with Jefferson Bus Lines. RideLine is also looking into providing transportation for medical appointments out of town for those with Medicaid insurance and will include wheelchair vans. 2.4. Education Enhancement Award – no report needed until August meeting 2.5. NDEAM - The next planning meeting is June 28 at 10:30 am at the Department of Rehabilitation Services (Vocational Rehabilitation). The event date has been set for October 11, 2016, 8 am – 11 am. There will be a speaker and information fair. 2.6. ADA Anniversary Celebration – Holly Gederos shared that a street fair event is planned for Thursday, July 21, from 4 pm – 9 pm. The time is tentative. Fallout Creative Community will assist in the activities. Plans are to have “Better Ride” band play, free food, cotton candy and more. Holly passed around a sign- up sheet for volunteer help. 3. Old Business 3.1. Housing Authority Update (Susan Hook, Cindy Kirschman) - Susan updated the Committee and let them know that the brochures were distributed at the Sherman Apartments and Homestead Apartments. {00022036.DOCX / 1} 3.2. Brown County Fair Participation (Eric Vetter, Doris Stusiak, all) - Eric is waiting to hear from Derek Ricci, Brown County Fair Manager, about when the juggler will perform. Eric will check into this and get back to the Committee. Holly Gederos will contact the Aberdeen newspaper about doing an article on the juggler and the Mayor’s Committee’s help in sponsoring the act. Plans are to display the Committee’s banner wherever the juggler is stationed. 3.3. “Did You Realize . . .” (Holly Gederos, Krista Bau, Eric Vetter, Ardell Fiedler) –Holly and Eric requested to have this tabled until they get through the ADA celebration. They have changed focus a bit and are also looking for help on this subcommittee. 4. New Business 4.1 Gypsy Day – SDSBVI: Gypsy Day is October 1, and the Committee discussed the need to have more volunteers to help if we do agree to partner with the school again. Further discussion will be held at upcoming meetings. 4.2 Resignation – Marcus VanDam has submitted his resignation. Doris Stusiak plans to speak with him to see if he might reconsider. 5.
