Mayor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities Meeting Minutes Meeting Date: Tuesday, January 21, 2020 Start Time: 12 p.m. End Time: 1 p.m. Location: City Hall 2nd Floor Conference Room Purpose: Regular scheduled meeting Attendance: Mendy Jones, Tina Kenser, Megan Neal, Dalita Meyer, Allison Schmitt, Laura Stoltenburg, Doris Stusiak, Tyler Goldade, Eric Vetter, Tom Wanttie, Becca Wells, Steven Redmond 1. Standing Items 1.1 Any additions to agenda? 1.2 Review and approve minutes from November 2019 Meeting: Tom made a motion to approve the November meeting minutes with a second from Eric. All approve. 1.3 Review and approve Treasurer’s reports for October and November 2019: Current balance is $4589.74. Committee was awarded $3800 this month with the new balance of $8.389.74. Everything is paid up to date. Motion was made by Tom to approve both reports Treasure reports with a second motion from Allison. All approve. Excused absence: Gwyn Fischbach, Nancy Kelsey, Cindy Krischman, Lance Sigdestad and Nicole Nelson 2. Committee Reports 2.1 BAD – Becca Wells, Allison Schmitt, Doris Stusiak, Nancy Kelsey, Gwyn Fischbach Activity Demo – Wchair/O&M (Eric, Nichole, Mike, Trish) NAMI/Deaf/HOH (Ann, Lance, NAMI) Becca reported that she received RSVPs from area schools. We will have approximately 215 students for each the a.m. and p.m. shifts. The committee did meet with the presenters last month. The goal is to have demos of what the presenters will demo during the event. This is the first year of providing 2 sessions. The BAD committee will ask teachers for feedback for the next year. 2.2 Enhance Aberdeen – Eric Vetter stated that they had a brainstorming seminar with the city. They will meet next month. 2.3 Transportation – Tom Wanttie – Will receive 3 new buses tomorrow. With a new grant, they will be receiving 4 more new buses. Each of these buses will be replacement buses. The Community Coordination meeting will be held again on February 6th at noon which will address transportation issues. Tom is hoping to have this meeting at the library. Tomorrow is transit day at the Capital. They are submitting a bill for more funds for transit. 2.4 Education Enhancement Award – Mendy Jones (tabled temporarily) 2.5 NDEAM – Laura Stoltenburg: NDEAM committee will meet today with new proposals due the end of February. 2.6 ADA Anniversary Celebration – Eric Vetter reported that he is still looking for someone to chair the event. This committee will need to start working on this event if we are going to book a band or other groups/items. A date for the 2020 event has not been set 3. Old Business 3.1 Banners for Tabling – Dalita and Tyler discussed progress of the banner design. Tyler showed the group some rough drafts and feedback was given. Tyler will make changes to the design. Discussed that we do not have or need a deadline date to complete this task at this time. 3.2 BAD Spending Suggestions – Volunteer Shirts, Video – Discussed having blue volunteer shirts that can been worn during the BAD event. Doris will check the price options for T-shirts. Discussed having a professional or {00065030.DOCX / 1} semiprofessional video of the different events that the Mayor’s council provide to showcase the events. Becca will check to pricing a video production. 3.4 4. New Business 4.1 Business After Hours Tabling - February (Laura Stoltenburg) – non-profit Business after Hours at the Boys and Girls Club Tina and Dalita will man this table. 4.2 Temporary Substitute Treasurer/VP Needed (Doris Stusiak) – Allison will be on maternity leave next month and will need a substitute for Feb through May. Laura will fill in for Allison. 4.3 Training for Police- Lance is working on training with the Police regarding working with people of disabilities. Please contact Lance if you want to present on a certain topic or possibly attending the training session. 4.4 Website – Dalita will work on updating the Committee’s website. 4.5 Video – Eric stated that he has been brainstorming on possibly making a video of wheelchair, walker and cane accessibility within town. Mendy stated that she could possibly have a class from Central High School to video. 5. Review Upcoming Dates – NAMI Family Support Group – 2nd Monday of month, 6:30-7:30, Fireside Room, Bethlehem Lutheran Church NAMI Aberdeen Affiliate Meeting – 3rd Monday of month, 5:30 – 7:00, Location TBA NAMI Connections Peer Support Group – 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month, 6:00-7:00, ARCC NAMI Night – One (1) Saturday monthly, TBD April 17, 2020 – Barrier Awareness Day 6.
