2. Committee Reports
2.1 BAD – Becca Wells, Allison Schmitt, Doris Stusiak, Nancy Kelsey, Gwyn Fischbach
ASD/ADHD Station – With no one from BCS available to attend today’s meeting, Megan Neal emailed
the group a description of the proposed activity for ASD. The groups will be put through a sensory-
overload obstacle course to replicate what a person with autism experiences.
LD/ID Station – Becca Wells explained three different activities that would simulate what it is like to
have either an intellectual/cognitive disability or a learning disability. One activity involves the use of
white boards with dry erase markers while another requires the use of mirrors.
Additional BAD Topics – The committee discussed designing and purchasing mini-discs to give to all BAD
participants. The group also discussed other freebies such as backpacks. Becca Wells will check on the
cost and availability of getting backpacks with our logo imprinted. Doris Stusiak will contact Mayor
Schaunaman to ask him to welcome BAD participants and thank them for attending. Doris will also
contact Dr. Cheryl Wold and Jessica Vogel at NSU about getting student volunteers through the SPED
program and/or CEC group.
2.2 Enhance Aberdeen – Eric Vetter – No report
2.3 Transportation – Tom Wanttie – No report
2.4 Education Enhancement Award – Mendy Jones (Table Temporarily)
2.5 NDEAM – Laura Stoltenburg –
Becca Wells reported that “Think 3D” from Sioux Falls will provide a motivational program at this year’s
event. Being fairly local, that should keep costs somewhat lower.
2.6 ADA Anniversary Celebration – Eric Vetter
Eric emailed Aberdeen Community Theatre to see if they would be interested in doing a re-enactment of
the signing of the ADA. ACT was intrigued and will check to see if they have open dates. The ADA
planning committee will meet soon to start the process. It looks like Eric and Tom Wanttie will co-chair
the event.
3. Old Business
3.1 Banners for Tabling – Tyler Goldade – No report
3.2 Business After Hours Wrap-up – Eric Vetter and Tina Kenser reported that attendance at the event was
good and that people tended to stop longer and ask questions this year compared to previous years.
3.3 BAD Spending Suggestions – Shirts, Video (Doris Stusiak, Becca Wells)
Doris Stusiak reported on the quote for volunteer t-shirts from Geffdog. Motion made, seconded and
approved to order 50 short-sleeve t-shirts per the quote in the same blue as the Mayor’s Advisory shirts
{00065036.DOCX / 1}
with the Mayor’s Advisory logo to be screen printed in all white in the upper left corner of each shirt
with the number of each shirt size to be discussed with Geffdog and determined by that discussion.
Doris Stusiak will place the order with Geffdog.
Becca Wells reported that she has tried to contact Dan Cleberg about preparing a video about BAD and
other Mayor’s Advisory events. She’s had no response to date.
3.4 Accessibility Video – Eric Vetter
