Mayor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities Minutes Meeting Date: Tuesday, July 21, 2020 Start Time: 12 p.m. End Time: 1 p.m. Location: Virtual via Zoom Purpose: Regular scheduled meeting Present: Eric Vetter, Tina Kenser, Deb Kambel, Nancy Kelsey, Laura Stoltenburg, Doris Stusiak, and Nichole Nelson. Potential new member, Brad Orr. Brad Orr was welcomed and introduced himself. The committee will vote at the August meeting on Brad’s membership application. 1. Standing Items 1.1 Any additions to agenda? (Add 4.4 = future meetings Zoom vs. face-to-face?) 1.2 Review and approve minutes from June 2020 Meeting. Motion made, seconded and carried to approve the June 2020 minutes. 1.3 Review and approve Treasurer’s report for June 2020 There have been no new expenditures. The ADA Billboards for $500 have been paid. The approximate balance for the month is $8400 which includes BAD. Motion by Nancy Kelsey to approve the report with second by Laura Stoltenburg. Report approved by vote. 1.4 Excused absence: Becca Wells, Tom Wanttie, Cindy Kirschman, Dawn Brush, Allison Schmitt, Mendy Jones 2. Committee Reports 2.1 BAD – Becca Wells, Allison Schmitt, Doris Stusiak, Nancy Kelsey, Gwyn Fischbach (table?) Nancy Kelsey reported there is no new news regarding BAD. We will table BAD until September meeting. 2.2 Enhance Aberdeen – Eric Vetter Since this Chamber Committee meets quarterly, Eric Vetter will talk provide information after any meetings. 2.3 Transportation – Tom Wanttie Tom Wanttie was not at this meeting, however was able to provide information about Ride Line. Ride Line’s business is slowly increasing. Currently, they have had 6 children for their summer youth program. Ride Line is providing about 70 rides/day. As of right now, they have 86 students signed up for Fall rides. 2.4 Education Enhancement Award – Mendy Jones Doris reported the deadline had been cut off to July 1. There were 3 applicants (2 NSU students, and 1 Accelerated Nursing student through SDSU), and we will wait to hear from the committee. 2.5 NDEAM – Laura Stoltenburg Laura Stoltenburg reported that the NDEAM committee has contracted with Think 3D! for the first week October. She has secured the DEC for the first week in October, however the decision has not been made if the event will be held in person, or virtually. The DEC does have a 30-day prior to event cancellation policy, in which a decision will be made. 2.6 ADA Anniversary Celebration – Eric Vetter Eric Vetter reported that Mayor Travis Schaunaman will be using a wheelchair for 24 hours with his experiences being shared on social media. He and the Mayor were interviewed by Aberdeen News, with the article being published in Saturday’s edition. Megan Neal showed us the ADA glasses they ordered- the cups, lids, and straws are all mood changing. 60 drinks will be given away Friday-Sunday at the Red Rooster. The Red Rooster will also be having an outdoor concert and another 60 drinks will be given away. {00066543.DOCX / 1}  Eric also talked about the mural, everyone will pick up a piece to color and bring back. There has been approval for $1000, he requested the need for $1100 for additional costs. Motion made, seconded, and carried to approve. 3. Old Business 3.1 City Promotion Request (Doris Stusiak) Doris Stusiak reported that she heard back from Karl Alberts and he said our money comes from the general fund and there will be money available to our committee. 3.2 Banners for Tabling (Doris Stusiak) Doris contacted Tyler Goldade’s mom, and she is in the process of trying to get passwords to have access to his files for the table tents. If she can find them, she will let Doris know. It was decided that if we are to get them, we will decide how to move forward. 3.3 Education Enhancement Award Proposal (Doris Stusiak) There was quite a bit of discussion about asking the city to name this award after Tyler, Tyler Goldade Education Enhancement Award. There was some concern, wondering if we will name awards after other members that pass away. Ideas that were discussed: giving the award in honor of Tyler this year (considering this for the future); The money is available for 2 awards; Recognizing Tyler, versus making a forever award (may not need city’s approval); Making a plaque with one of Tyler’s drawings and his story, and give with the award. This would include having a new plaque each year (the previous year’s winner would get to keep the plaque and not have to turn it in). Laura Stoltenburg made a motion to develop the plaque this year, and have a conversation about this when we have a larger committee together. Eric Vetter seconded the move with approval by vote. Eric Vetter made a motion for two awards, 1. Charity of family’s choosing, 2. Student award. Tina Kenser seconded this motion with approval by vote. 4. New Business 4.1 Goldade Thank You Doris Stusiak let everyone know that a thank-you was received from Lorissa Goldade. 4.2 Aberdeen Magazine (Eric Vetter) There was an explanation that an earlier edition of the Aberdeen Magazine featured an article about the annual ADA celebration. 4.3 Progress Magazine (Eric Vetter) Eric Vetter mentioned during our ADA Celebration conversation that Doris Stusiak will have an article in the Progress Magazine. 4.4 Future Meetings via Zoom or Face-to-Face? (Doris Stusiak) Doris Stusiak informed everyone that City Hall is now open, but the conference room has a 10-person maximum capacity. We will look at options for other venues to meet at, Doris will check on the community room at the library, Megan Neal will check on the community room at the police station and Nichole Nelson will check on the NSU room at SDSBVI. It was also discussed to offer both Zoom and Face-to-Face, and Laura Stoltenburg noted we will have to gauge everyone’s comfort level. Laura will line up a Survey Monkey for members to vote. 5.
