Mayor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities Minutes Meeting Date: Tuesday, August 18, 2020 Start Time: 12 p.m. End Time: 1 p.m. Location: Virtual via Zoom Purpose: Regular scheduled meeting Present: Allison Schmitt, Melissa Dorn, Becca Wells, Cindy Kirschman, Lance Sigdestad, Deb Kambel, Eric Vetter, Nancy Kelsey, Brad Orr, Tom Wanttie, Travis Schaunaman, Nichole Nelson, Mendy Jones. Melissa Dorn was welcomed and introduced herself. 1. Standing Items 1.1 Any additions to agenda? None, Agenda minutes approved with motion from Eric Vetter and seconded Tom Wanttie. 1.2 Review and approve minutes from July 2020 Meeting Becca Wells first, Cindy Kirschman second. 1.3 Review and approve Treasurer’s report for July 2020 Allison Schmitt gave the update for July, added the Fallout Community -$400, Red Rooster -$511.49. YTD Expenses: 1941.43, Community Balance: 6940.61. 1.4 Excused absence: Doris Stusiak, Tina Kenser, Laura Stoltenburg, Gwyn Fischbach. 2. Committee Reports 2.1 BAD – Becca Wells, Allison Schmitt, Doris Stusiak, Nancy Kelsey, Gwyn Fischbach (Tabled/September) 2.2 Enhance Aberdeen – Eric Vetter This group has not met. 2.3 Transportation – Tom Wanttie Tom Wanttie informed us that school transportation started on 8/18/20. They have 27 riders in the AM and 87 riders in the PM, which is the highest they’ve ever had. Their general riders are increasing again, as more Aspire clientele are utilizing Ride Line again. As of 8/18/20, they are back to full staff, but Ride Line is hiring part-time drivers. 2.4 Education Enhancement Award – Mendy Jones - Mendy Jones informed us that Torey Whittlinger was the winner for the Education Enhancement Award. 2.5 NDEAM – Allison Schmitt Allison Schmitt gave the update from Laura Stoltenburg, the NDEAM Think 3D! event will be moving to a virtual platform on October 7, 2020. There will be one session in the morning and one session in the afternoon. There will be registration and more information to come in the next three weeks. 2.6 ADA Anniversary Celebration – Eric Vetter Eric Vetter said the billboards are still up. Cindy Kirschman said she was disappointed that only four members were there, and it seemed there was no indication this was a MAC Event. We planned this celebration and should have been there to represent. She also said that the cups, concert, and art activity was great and social distancing and masks were utilized. 3. Old Business 3.1 Vote on Orr Committee Membership (Allison Schmitt) Motion made, seconded and carried to approve the additions of Brad Orr and Melissa Dorn to the Mayor’s Advisory Committee. 3.2 Banners for Tabling (Doris Stusiak will report in September) 3.3 Education Enhancement Award Proposal Update (Doris Stusiak) The Goldade family asked that the South Dakota Make-A-Wish Foundation be the recipient of the $500 donation in Tyler Goldade’s name. Also looking at planning a plaque in his memory. Motion by Tom to {00069096.DOCX / 1}  approve, Becca seconded, with approval by vote. Cindy Kirschman said she spoke with Tyler Goldade’s mom, she has boxes of post-its with his logo available to anyone that is interested. 3.4 Future Meetings via Zoom or Face-to-Face (Laura Stoltenburg; Doris Stusiak; Megan Neal) Laura Stoltenburg sent out a SurveyMonkey to get feedback from members about upcoming meetings, with the deadline being August 28, 2020. Cindy Kirschman said she likes the virtual option because it’s more accessible for some members. Eric Vetter likes the idea of continuing to provide the virtual platform as an option. 4. New Business 4.1 Website Update (Cindy Kirschman) Cindy Kirschman went online to find MAC and NAMI information. She found a lot of incorrect information such as prior events. She will get the incorrect information for the websites and get to Marie DeGroot. 5. Review Upcoming Dates – NAMI Family Support Group – 2nd Monday of month, 6:30-7:30, Fireside Room, Bethlehem Lutheran Church NAMI Aberdeen Affiliate Meeting – 3rd Monday of month, 5:30 – 7:00, Virtual Wellness Activity NAMI Connections Peer Support Group – Every Thursday, 12 – 1 p.m.; Virtual NAMI Night – One (1) Saturday monthly, TBD Cindy Kirschman gave everyone a general update about NAMI. All meetings are currently being held virtually, with any updates on their Facebook page. There is an open-door policy for NAMI, regular membership is $40. If that is too much for a member, it will be $5/year. If that is not feasible, the $5 will be waived and they won’t turn anyone away. This membership also includes the newsletters and magazine. 6.
