DANGEROUS BUILDINGS COMMISSION James Downey, Hearing Officer Charles Bayly Karl Richardson Ed Carter Mark Thompson Joe Doan CITY OF ALGONAC 805 St. Clair River Drive Algonac, MI 48001 MINUTES FOR SPECIAL MEETING Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at 9 a.m. This was an electronic meeting held under authority of EO 2020-154 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Call to Order Hearing Officer Downey called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. Roll Call Present: Bayly, Carter, Doan, Thompson Absent: Richardson Others: City Attorney and hearing office Jim Downey, City Clerk Sam Boelke, City Building Official Tracy Kallek, City Code Enforcement Officer Lori Warner, Marian Valentine, William Hyde, Frederick Jarvi. Amend Agenda Motion Bayly; supported by Carter to amend the agenda my moving item #5 to item #3 position. Motion carried: Roll call: Ayes: Bayly, Carter, Doan, Thompson Nays: None Presentation – 809 Summer Street Hearing officer swore in Rental Inspector Joe Doan, Blight Officer Lori Warner, Building Official Tracy Kallek and property owner Marian Valentine. All parties presented their perspectives. Motion by Carter, supported by Bayly to declare the building a dangerous building in its present condition and order its repair and compliance with current code in 180 days. Motion carried. Roll Call Ayes: Bayly, Carter, Thompson Nays: None 7.29.20 Dangerous Buildings Minutes 1 Presentation – 623 Columbia Street Hearing officer swore in City Blight Officer Lori Warner, City Building Official Tracy Kallek and property owner Frederick Jarvi. All parties presented their perspectives. Motion by Carter; supported by Thompson to declare the building a dangerous building in its present condition and give property owner 60 days to become compliant with a structural engineer and plan of action. If not met, the building will be razed within 60 days. Motion carried. Roll call Ayes: Bayly, Carter, Thompson Nays: None Presentation – 807 Clinton Street Hearing officer swore in Blight Officer Lori Warner, Building Official Tracy Kallek and property owner Frederick Jarvi. All parties presented their perspectives. Motion by Bayly, supported by Thompson to declare this building a dangerous building, unfit for human habitation, and allow 60 days to pull the required permit and bring the building up to code.
