ARTS, PARKS, & RECREATION COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS June 14th, 2023 The Amery Arts, Parks, and Rec. Committee met on June 14th, 2023, in Soo Line Park. The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. Present: Members Colleen Adams, Tommy Dusek, Joyce Schaefer, Catherine Olsen, and Denise Johnson. Absent: None Others Present: Clerk-Treasurer, Ben Jansen; Deputy Clerk-Treasurer, Taylor Larson, and Public Works Director, Jeff Mahoney. 1. Soo Line Park, North Twin Park, and South Twin Beach Park Needs Assessment – The Committee began the meeting in Soo Line Park and identified cleaning up the electrical lines in the park as a big need. A new kiosk was also mentioned as well as some general maintenance on the pavilion. The committee then went to North Twin Lake Park to discuss needs there. A new dock is the most important need for North Twin. Repairing the pillars along the road and improving the lake access along the park were also noted as needs. Finally, the committee went to S. Twin Beach. Overall, the committee was disappointed with the condition of the park as many of the facilities there are in disrepair due to continual vandalism. The pavilion and picnic tables were both identified as needs for the park. The playground equipment there is also out of date and needs to be replaced. The beach was discussed as a great location for a splashpad in the future due to the parking available and the open space that is there. A future meeting was set for Monday, June 19th at 4 P.M. at City Hall where the committee anticipates writing up a statement with its recommendation to the City Council.
