Board of Trustees Minutes May 10, 2021 Meeting called to order at 7:30 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Dennis Siry, Deputy Mayor Kevin Smith, Trustee O’Neill, Trustee Brooks ALSO PRESENT: Village Attorney Bruce Kennedy APD Chief Bryan Burton Superintendent Bruce Hopper Clerk/Treasurer Catherine Murdock Assistant to the Mayor Wendy O’Neill Mayor Siry welcomed everyone to the Board of Trustees meeting and invited Chief Bryan Burton to conduct the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Siry announced that on June 14th the Village will resume in-person meetings. Dredging will be starting on Ketcham’s Creek and Bayview Canal and should be done by July 2nd. He thanked the Army Corps of Engineers for including this project in their dredging list for the year. He also announced that Building Inspector Bryan Donato will be leaving his position and we wish him the best. Gregg Doerner will be working for the Village as a part-time Building Inspector. Good News & Upcoming Community Events • Deputy Mayor Smith shared upcoming dates including a Memorial Day remembrance ceremony on May 31st at 10 a.m. at the Village Triangle. • A Community Art Market will be presented by Colored Colors, taking place on the Village Triangle on weekends, May 15th through June 13th. • The Bay Village Civic Association will again host the Farmer’s Market on Saturdays, starting on June 12th through October 9th, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. • Rotary Gift of Life dinner will be taking place on June 17th • Kiwanis will host a Pitch and Putt outing at Cedar Creek Golf Course on June 18th • On June 23rd the Village will have sign ups for Swimming and Sailing lessons at the Village Beach – check Amityville.com for details and additional sign updates. • Town of Babylon will organize a Wounded Warrior Ride this year (with only veterans riding) on July 16th and supporters are encouraged to attend that morning (ride starts at 9 a.m. at Town Hall) to cheer them on as they come through Amityville. • The Village will host a free “theater in the park” performance of Romeo and Juliet on July 18th at 5 pm. down at James A. Caples Park at the Amityville Beach. • Senator John Brooks will conduct a webinar on taxes on May 14th at 6 p.m. • Assemblywoman Kimberly John-Pierre is presenting a physical and mental health screening for veterans Mayor Siry added that Pastor Bob Liebold of Simpson United Methodist Church will be retiring and there is a June 20th farewell planned after the church services. We wish him well and he will most definitely be missed. The Mayor also reminded everyone to continue to lock your car doors as there have been some problems. If you are planning a garage sale, please be advised that a permit is needed, and can be obtained at Village Hall for $10.00. 1  Board of Trustees Minutes May 10, 2021 Mayor Siry requested Committee Reports for the month of April: • DPW (Trustee O’Neill): The department completed the replacement of the south fence line of the Nautical Park between 18 and 22 Ocean Ave. • Disposed and dumped municipal waste, 8.68 tons; C&D -0, Yard waste -0 • Replaced the large-chambered storm basin at #31 Barberry Court with (4) 3 x 8 precast sections replaced the tree that needed to be removed and topsoil seeded the front yard the pre- cast and the roadway need to settle before curb and road way replaced, setting to grade the storm grates (2). • Took delivery of 26 trees and planted Beach (Arbor Day), Peterkin Park, 110 Median, Grace Ct., Bayview Ave., Avon Lake, North triangle, Unqua Pl., Barberry Ct. • Removed Pavers as per drawing and stacked on pallets and placed pallets in the back yard of #3 Unqua Pl. planted (4) Zelkova’s on Richmond Ave. (2) Japanese Lilac’s on Unqua, installed landscape cloth and Mulch watered the 6 locations photograph attached. • Working on the Fire department 9/11 memorial lighting to dim the sidewalk bollards 50% and the upward lighting for the TT/Iron (2) are unrepairable as per Magna Flood (manufacturer) possibly 3; a solution is to be determined. • Landscaping and Village property weekly maintenance ongoing. • Removed two cement end benches from the beach for refurbishment: one to go the AFD/PD park on West Oak St., and a Teak memorial bench with a damaged back. • Assisted the petroleum technician repairing the tank probes for fuel dispensing system. • Hung and took down the Tree City flags in celebration of Arbor Day 2021. • The ballfields are groomed for the scheduled games; working on preparing the Amityville Little League fields for play have not as of yet received a schedule from Amityville Little League or the travel team. • Removed six (6) cubic yards of debris from (2) storm drains on Anita Pl. and Richmond Ave., removed 2 cubic yards of debris from the drains at the intersection of Ocean Ave., Richmond Ave. and Unqua Pl. • Started working on a storm drain on Braham Ave. • Pothole repairs ongoing including the entrance way to parking lot #6. • Sign and meter repairs ongoing. • Street sweeping ongoing. Fire Department: No report provided. Village Beach (Trustee Brooks): Beach preparations are ongoing. The Village is still in search of a crash boat operator but has options to consider. Trustee Brooks will be meeting with Beach Manager TerriLynn Bayon this week to plan for the season. Justice Court (Trustee Brooks): April report is not yet available, based on the monthly reporting schedule, and will be provided at an upcoming meeting Building Dept. (Trustee Whalen): Revenue: $22,400.00; 29 Permits Issued; 47 Inspections Performed; 45 Notices of Violation Issued; 28 Violations Corrected; Fire Marshal performed 16 Fire Safety Inspections; Fire Marshal responded to 2 Call-outs. Amityville Police Dept. (Deputy Mayor Smith): Arrests 5, blotters 474, cases 42, citations 149, impound 1, medical aided 83, and traffic accidents 89. SE, Atlanta, GA and Richard Pizante, 813 Strathford Ave., Pasadena, CA, explained the approach and premise of the documentary which includes debunking the paranormal aspects of the Amityville Horror, especially among younger viewers. Mayor Siry and the Board stressed the need to avoid causing any disturbance for homeowners/neighbors, traffic disruption or violations of privacy.
