Meeting called to order at 7:30 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Dennis Siry, Deputy Mayor Smith, Trustee Whalen, Trustee O’Neill,

Mayor Siry welcomed everyone to the meeting and invited Fire Chief Rob Waegerle to conduct the
Pledge of Allegiance. He asked those in attendance to keep the people of the Ukraine in their prayers.
He then called attention to AFD Chief Robert Waegerle and thanked him for his leadership and dedication
during his 39 years as a volunteer and two terms as Chief of the Department. Mayor Siry then presented
the outgoing chief with a proclamation, saying it was a pleasure working with him.
The Mayor then announced that a Budget Hearing will be held on Monday, April 4th at 7 p.m. at Village
Hall as well as the annual Organizational Meeting on April 11th at 7:30 p.m.. He stated that a 1.9% tax
increase is anticipated, keeping the Village under the tax cap once again. He thanked Clerk/Treasurer
Catherine Murdock for creating and administering the budget and Department heads for managing costs.
Mayor Siry pointed out there will be a meeting of the Local Planning Committee for the Downtown
Revitalization Initiative on March 30th at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Amityville Fire Department and via
Zoom, and the public is invited to attend and provide input.

• High School athlete alumni basketball game, Saturday, April 9th
• St. Martin’s Annual Fashion Show, April 7
• Little League Parade, April 23rd, 10:30 a.m.
• Bay Village Civic Association - Shredder Event, April 16 10-1 p.m. and Anniversary Brunch, at
Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club, April 24th
Mayor Siry then called for Committee Reports to be read by the Trustees for the month of February 2022.
DPW (Trustee O’Neill): Trustee O’Neill provided highlights:
• Roof at DPW was replaced prior to the blizzard
• Potholes are starting to be filled
• Repaired gate at dog park/replenished waste bags
• Saved Village money by rebuilding the framework of the truck salt spreader
• Tree removal and grinding is ongoing
• Spring Cleanup of Parks
• Beach – north side of the track clean up and replaced fence on westside
• Storm drains being cleaned out
• Streetlight repairs
• Fixed property damage to a wooden barrier on Ocean Ave. and Richmond Ave.
• Storm drains on Perkins and Riverside Aves. removed and replaced; 20-inch pipe replaced,
asphalt put down
• Ballfields were readied for the season

• Performed inspections and installed taxi, tow truck, garbage carter vehicle decals

Village Justice Court (Trustee Brooks)
Revenues reported to the State $28,305.75 including $18,803.00 Village Justice; $7,145.00, Assoc.
Village Justice; $2,357.75; Parking Violations Bureau, $7,145.00. Penal/Criminal, Vehicle & Traffic and
Village Ordinances: 321 charges processed; 214 charges closed; and $21,160.75 collected in
fines/surcharges. Parking: 104 tickets processed, 74 tickets collected on, and $7,145.00 collected in fines.
Building Department (Trustee Whalen):
Revenue of $37,045.00; permits issued 32, permits closed 11, inspections performed 55, There were 10
CO searches, 14 fire safety inspections and 5 fire marshal response to callouts.
Amityville Fire Department (Trustee Whalen)
February Report: Total Calls for February were 187, with 556 calls to date. Monthly totals include:
Structure fires 7, miscellaneous fire 5, Carbon Monoxide 1, motor vehicle accidents 7,
Rescue/miscellaneous 5, 2nd rescue calls, 14; 3rd rescue calls 1, working fires 2.
Mayor Siry advised that North Amityville Fire Dept. is back up and running and is using Stony Brook
Ambulance Service for EMS rescue. He thanked the members of the AFD for stepping up, along with the
three surrounding companies, and thanked them for their support.
Amityville Police Department (Deputy Mayor Smith)
February Report: 21 Arrests, 513 Blotters, 46 Cases, 305 Citations, 1 Juvenile, 24 Traffic Accidents, 92
Medical Aided. Chief Burton added that on Thursday they hosted Coffee with a Cop at Anchor Coffee,
and it turned out well. The next one will be held at Cornucopia.
Mayor Siry also reported that an APD Reform Meeting will be held to discuss progress.

Resolution 22-03-28-01 to adopt guidelines for the ceremonial renaming of existing streets
RESOLUTION 22-03-28-01
VILLAGE OF AMITYVILLE REQUIREMENTS FOR CEREMONIAL RENAMING OF
EXISTING STREETS POLICY STATEMENT:
The Village of Amityville recognizes the interest from the public to honor individuals who participate in
or contribute to the betterment of the community in an extraordinary manner.
The intent of this policy is to set guidelines that advise the public of the requirements for the ceremonial
renaming of existing streets in the Village in honor of accomplished individuals.
PROCEDURES and GUIDELINES:
1) All requests for ceremonial street name consideration must be by letter and addressed to the Mayor,
Village of Amityville, 21 Ireland Pl. Amityville, NY 11701.
2) The request must state:
a. the proposed street name
b. the exact location of the proposed street name (i.e. on Ireland Place between
Broadway and Ketcham Avenue)
c. the reason that the name is proposed
d. a statement of the significance of the candidate, their contributions to the
community, any enduring and outstanding qualities in order to be recommended
for street name designation, and of their sound moral and social character.
e. Provide proof of military service or public service, if applicable (i.e. war veteran,
police, fire)
f. the address of the proposed candidate and its proximity to the street to be
renamed.
3) The request must be accompanied by a petition signed by at least 51% of the owners of properties on
the street to be renamed supporting the request. Said petition need only be signed by one of the
property owners of each property on the street.
4) Upon receipt of the written request for street name consideration, the Mayor’s Office shall forward
the request to the Superintendent of Public Works for review.
5) In the event that the Board of Trustees determines that the proposed street is available for
ceremonious renaming, the Board of Trustees shall consider a resolution authorizing ceremonious
renaming at its next regularly scheduled Board meeting.
6) Upon approval by Board resolution, the Superintendent shall install a sign, where it deems
appropriate, but adjacent to the existing official street sign.
7) Nothing contained herein shall cause any official name change of any streets within the Village of
Amityville
8) The Board of Trustees reserves the right to discontinue the renaming of any Village street and remove
any related signage at any time in its discretion without notice or the consent of the party requesting
such renaming.
