Board of Trustees Minutes June 13th, 2022 Meeting called to order at 7:30 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Dennis Siry, Deputy Mayor Kevin Smith, Trustee Tom Whalen, Trustee Michael O’Neill, Trustee Owen E. Brooks, Jr. ALSO PRESENT: Village Attorney Bruce Kennedy APD Chief Bryan Burton AFD 2nd Assistant Chief Robert Maccomber DPW Superintendent Bruce Hopper Building Inspector Michael Breitweg Clerk/Treasurer Catherine Murdock Assistant to the Mayor Wendy O’Neill Mayor Siry welcomed everyone to the meeting and conducted the Pledge of Allegiance. He asked everyone to pause and reflect on the sad loss of former Board of Trustees and AFD member, Joe Slack who passed away recently and former AFD Chief Lee Greey’s father. He then swore in newly hired Police Officer Jason Oliver, who recently completed his training at the Academy. PO Oliver, who comes from a long line of law enforcement professionals, was top in his class. Mayor Siry stated we are fortunate to have him and welcomed him to the team. Good News: Deputy Mayor Smith announced upcoming events, including the Bay Village Civic Association Farmers Market every Saturday morning and the Kiwanis Golf Outing coming up on Friday. Mayor Siry announced that Supper By the Bay at Amityville Beach starts on Wed., July 6th with live music, Shakespeare in the Park will be on June 26th and July 10th at the Amityville Beach, and Fridays on the Greene are ongoing through the Summer. Mayor Siry also thanked APD Officers who saved several ducklings from storm drains recently. Committee Reports DPW – May 2022 Report (Trustee O’Neill) • Reinstalled the DEC permit sign which has gone missing 5 times on the north side of Avon Lake • Reinstalled the party lighting on Greene Ave., installed LED decorative fixtures to the poles on the triangle with a retro fit custom plate and additional modifications. Manufactured a steel plate for a excavated sidewalk hole south side of Greene Ave. (Chase construction) to try to prevent a tripping hazard. • Carted and disposed of 42.76 ton of C&D, 20.72-ton municipal waste. • Cut/cleared removed carted 48 cubic yards of vegetated waste from the north fence line of the Amityville Beach. • Called for mark-out of utilities for the engineering plan for the flooding problem on Bayside Pl.; cut and dug exploratory holes to help plan materials needed, and plan of attack. Materials are back ordered. • Called and set up delivery of portable lavatories for Greene Ave. and Nautical Park events for June, July August 15th weeks of events with weekly cleaning service. • Screened street sweepings for disposal. • Took delivery of the hanging planters and the annuals, and the planned plant improvements for the entrance sign and the Municipal Building. Hanging plants have been installed with the exception of the missing lamp posts (due to MVAs). Started the plant watering process. • Completed the hanging basket brackets and the installation of 15 veteran banners, which will be up from Memorial Day to Veterans Day then removed for storage. • Set up and broke down the sound system for the Memorial Day service. 1 Board of Trustees Minutes June 13th, 2022 • Manufactured with embellished emblems for the village entrance way signs announcing the upcoming events. • Grooming and lining the Village ballfields for the softball league and the Little League. (Little League playoffs and the world series are on the 25th of June), Also replaced damaged sprinkler heads on the playing fields. • Removed a 34-inch diameter tree at the recommendation of the Village’s arborist due to a rot hole 4ft. into the trunk. Tree removed stump/ground soil/refurbished seeded • Street sweeping ongoing • Cleaning of the tree wells throughout the village. • The department continues to perform maintenance and repairs to the entire village motor fleet. • Took from storage the Kiwanis parade trailer and discovered the wheel bearings are worn and seized removed for replacement hopefully the parts will be shipped for the July 4th parade. • Performed a cleanup at #25 Wanser Pl. working on bill for submission to the Village Clerk. • Worked on several storm drain repairs and repairing the filter baskets that have collapsed due to extensive debris from grass clippings which are blown into the roadway when there is rainfall. Homeowners and cutters and blowers (landscapers) should be discouraged in this practice. • At Beach, set up a stage area for the south pavilion, also building a pergola for the area. The new refrigerator and freezer were set up in the kitchen area, the area was painted and new electrical work completed. The cooking grill was cleaned area ready for the season. • Painting of the new bathroom doors of the north pavilion. Other areas painted, electrical work on the pavilion lighting and outlet repairs completed. • Continue to perform reviews and mark locations for 811 requests. • Continue to refurbish the trash cans/picnic tables for the upcoming season. • Property owned by the Village-maintained, grass cutting, trash removal weed removal ongoing. Amityville Fire Dept. – April 2022 (Trustee Whalen) 1 brush fire, 8 structure fires, 3 misc. fires, 64 rescue, 3 motor vehicle accidents, 1 vehicle pedestrian accident, 1 MVA – heavy rescue required, 3 mutual aid (rescue), 1 mutal aid (fire), 3 working fires, 4 standbys. Building Dept. May 2022 (Trustee Whalen) Revenue $ 18,277.00 Permits Issued 33 Permits Closed 25 Inspections Performed 65 Notice of Violation Issued 0 Violations Corrected 0 CO Searches 29 Fire Marshal Fire Safety Inspection 6 Responded to Callouts 0 Amityville Beach – May 2022 (Trustee Brooks) Village Beach opens June 25th; Sign ups for Swimming and Sailing are on 6/22/2022 from 3;30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.. Sign up also at the Beach on June 27th and 28th. Program runs July 5 – August 5, with award ceremony on Aug. 5th at 10:00 a.m. 2 Board of Trustees Minutes June 13th, 2022 APD - May 2022 (Deputy Mayor Smith) Arrests 17, blotters ,570, cases 60, citations 353, field interviews 1, impounds 1, juveniles 0, medical aided 116, and traffic accidents 32. Mayor Siry also noted that the Village will honor two of its 100-year-old residents with trees planted in their honor at Village Hall. (Joan Kretz and William Lauder). The mayor also congratulated Building Inspector Michael Breitweg for completing his certification and Police Officer Jason Oliver for his full accreditation. He also stated that the Village DPW recently underwent a review by the Environmental Protection Agency and thanks go out to Bruce Hopper and his team for getting an excellent report. Before the close of the meeting, Clerk/Treasurer Catherine Murdock announced that Mayor Siry has become a grandfather, with the birth of granddaughter Leona Faye Bove.
