Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes September 9, 2024 The Board of Trustees Meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Dennis Siry, Deputy Mayor Kevin Smith; Trustee Michael O’Neill, Trustee Roger Smith, Trustee Owen Brooks, Jr. MEMBERS ABSENT: ALSO PRESENT: Village Attorney Bruce Kennedy APD Chief Bryan Burton AFD Chief Stephen Juliano Building Inspector Michael Breitweg DPW Superintendent Bruce Hopper Clerk/Treasurer Catherine Murdock Mayor Siry welcomed everyone to the Board of Trustees Meeting and invited Chief Burton to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Siry called for a motion to go to executive session to discuss a personnel matter. Mann’s Homemade Ice Cream will have a ribbon-cutting on Monday, Sept. 16th, and Young Freya Yoga will be having a ribbon cutting at Grey Barn on Sept. 17th, Scoops Ice Cream is open on Park Ave. in the Village. He added that Radio Flashback will be in concert on Friday, Sept. 13th, 8 to 10 pm. at the Village Beach (a fundraiser 1 Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes September 9, 2024 will be held for AFD Cares – please support the raffle of a guitar designed by Steve Pisani an Amityville resident and member of the band). Deputy Mayor Smith announced that the Town of Babylon Fire Departments Parade will take place on Sept. 21st starting at 5 p.m., for about an hour, going from S. Ketcham Ave. and Hamilton St. straight up to the Fire House. The Battle of the Badges is on Saturday, Sept. 28th at 6 p.m., which is another great fundraiser. The Homecoming Parade at the high school early that day. The VFW Golf outing is on Sept. 23rd – please see a VFW or Kiwanis member to sign up. The Farmer’s Market is ongoing on Broadway so please support that. Mayor Siry announced that a 9/11 Memorial Service is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 11th at 9/11 Memorial Park on Broadway. Please join in this remembrance. The Town of Babylon follows, at Cedar Beach, at 6 p.m. The Great South Bay Clean Up is September 28th, and the event raises funds to assist cancer patients and their families. It is being run by Todd Brice’s children this year. The Mayor then called for the reading of August 2024 Committee Reports. Department of Public Works –July 2024 (Trustee O’Neill) >Hauled and disposed of 4.95 tons Municipal waste, 6.58 tons C&D, 27.18 tons street sweepings, 55 cu.yds. wood chips. >Picked up and disposed of 1.07 tons of dumped tires from the Louden Ave. Ballfield parking area. >Ground and refurbished 10 stumps. >Tree trimming and tree removals on going. >Set up and cleaned up Beach Blast. >Working on cleaning S/D filter Baskets and regular Storm Drains. >Completed and sent bill to Village Clerk for building dept. cleanup request for #62 Central Ave. >Set out and picked up barricades for the porch music parties Saturday 08/31/2024. >Moved barricades/planters for sailing event at the Dingy Shop. >Weeding and the regular landscaping jobs are ongoing. >Assisted the exterminator in removing very large bees’ nest from electric room at the beach; also several bees nests at the Bennett place fire house. Trustee O’Neill thanked the DPW department for their outstanding work throughout the summer. Barbara Connelly, 108 Ketcham Ave., requested that the Garage Sale permit be amended to allow for signs to be posted 24 hours before and after a garage sale, and to change the limit of consecutive sale days from 2 to 3 days. Mayor Siry responded that the Board can talk about it. Diane Mellish, 22 South Ketcham Ave., reported that Sofia’s Restaurant, on Merrick Rd., is adding a parking lot on Ketcham Avenue.
