Mayor Siry invited public comments. Comments were as follows:
Colleen Nugent, 56 Washington Ave., Amityville appealed to the Mayor and Board to review the police
procedures for responding to dog-bite incidents which she and her dog(s) were involved in. She recommended
that APD be required to gather identifying information about the animals, to aid in verifying vaccination

records and prior incidents (through the Town of Babylon Animal Control and the Health Dept.). According
to Ms. Nugent, when her leashed dog was attacked recently (the second attack in just months), the owner of
the attacking dog did not receive an off-leash summons, even though the animal was left outside a doctor’s
office unleashed.
She also asked the Village to address the judicial process regarding hearings/prosecution of such cases. She
explained that the onus is on the victim to secure legal representation and involved parties should be made
better aware that they must appear in Court.
Village Attorney Bruce Kennedy agreed that victims should not bear onerous legal responsibilities, and the
Village might consider entering into an agreement with the Town of Babylon to facilitate the hearing process
in the future.
Diane Mellish, 22 S. Ketcham Ave., Amityville, asked if the Village entranceway sign that is being replaced
at Oak St. and Countyline Rd. will be a new design or if it is just a replacement. Trustee O’Neill confirmed it
is simply a replacement.
