City of Anderson Minutes of the Regular Meeting: September 16, 2014 Board of Public Works PRESENT: Pete Heuer, Chairman Stephen Turner Roger Clark, Member Brooke Parker Ashley Hopper, City Attorney Ken De La Bastide Charlee Turner, Recording Secretary Amy Dillon Jason Fenwick APPROVAL OF MINUTES Meeting was called to order at 3:02 p.m. Chairman Heuer notes Member Charlie Jones absence for the Board records. A motion was made by Member Clark to approve the minutes of the September 9 meeting. Chairman Heuer seconds. Motion passes unanimously. NEW BUSINESS A RECOMMENDATION TO AWARD THE CONTRACT FOR TWO TANDEM TRUCKS TO M&K BETTS Stephen Turner on behalf of the Street Department requests the board award the contract for two tandem trucks to M&K Betts. Turner stated that the Mack truck, which M&K is offering, would be a cost saver to the city. The truck is heavy duty and capable of withstanding and outlasting the freightliner truck, offered by Selking International and Stoops. The street department is in possession, currently, of Freightliner vehicles that have maintenance and other upkeep issues. Member Heuer questioned costs as Stoops and Selking International proposed lower bids. Turner then stated his decision came after research and test driving the truck. The Mack truck, which only M&K is offering, is a more durable truck according to Turner’s research. Heuer recommends a consultation with Legal counsel before awarding the contract. Member Clark made the motion to table the decision until September 23. Chairman Heuer seconds. Motion passes unanimously. The Board will revisit this issue during the September 23 meeting. MISCELLANEOUS None. OLD BUSINESS None. CLAIMS With no further business coming before the Board it was unanimously passed to pay the claims in the amount of $917,717.91. Member Clark made the motion to pay the bills and Chairman Heuer seconds. Motion passed unanimously.
