1 2 Lodger’s Tax Committee Meeting Minutes 3 Tuesday, August 13, 2019 4 5 Call to Order 6 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Gary Davis. 7 8 Pledge of Allegiance 9 The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the Committee. 10 11 Roll Call 12 Present at the meeting were Chairman Gary Davis, Shauna Cooper, Mindy Stille, Brenda Johnson 13 and Brent Dunn. Also present was Jimmy Linton. 14 15 Approval of Agenda 16 Brent Dunn made a motion to approve the agenda of August 13, 2019. Second to the motion was 17 from Mindy Stille. Motion passed. 18 19 Approval of Minutes 20 Brent Dunn made a motion to approve the minutes of the June 25, 2019 meeting of the Committee. 21 Second to the motion was from Mindy Stille. Motion passed. 22 23 New Business 24 Jimmy Linton gave a fiscal year-end report of the Lodgers Tax collections for 2018-2019. Total loding 25 revenues reported for 2018-19 were $6,304,897.64. This is an increase over the previous fiscal year 26 of 36.4% Total Lodger’s Tax collections for this past year were $324,622.23. Each month there are 27 more reporting individual lodgers. 28 29 Jimmy Linton reported that he had a meeting with Karina Armijo, the Town of Taos Tourism Director 30 regarding issues with Lodger’s Tax collections by third party internet booking companies. The 31 companies are now collecting taxes on some of the rentals, but are not collecting correct tax 32 amounts, nor reporting to the local municipalities for the individual property owners. This is creating 33 a problem for the individual owners that are ultimately responsible to make sure the taxes are paid. 34 There is an initiative being worked on to take to the State Legislature that may help to clear this 35 matter, but nothing will be taken up until the next legislative session.
