Pedestrian Trails Committee Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 3:30pm at Village Hall
I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Brian Smith at 3:30pm.
II. Pledge of Allegiance
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the Committee.
III. Roll Call
Present at the meeting were Brian Smith, Robin May, Katrina White, Carolyn Smith, and
Charles Earhart. Also present was Hogan Koesis and staff support Tracy Orr.
IV. Approval of the May 11, 2016 Meeting Agenda
A motion was made by Robin May to approve the May 11, 2016 agenda as written. The
motion was seconded by Brian Smith and passed unanimously.
V. Approval of February 3, 2016 Meeting Minutes
Charles Earhart suggested changing line 53 of the minutes by removing “Elk or Bear and”
adding “intersects on Via del Rey.” Brian Smith made a motion to approve the minutes with
the corrections. Charles Earhart seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously.
VI. Old Business
A. Crosswalks-Tracy Orr reported that we have the potential to get funding for a crosswalk
through the Transportation Alternatives Program grant or the Recreational Trails
Program grant. She is working on those now. Brian Smith asked if we could also apply
for a crosswalk at South Angel Fire Road and Highway 434 and one at the Country Club
entrance.
B. Trails Status and Maintenance-It was reported that the trees down on Oesta Vista have
been removed. Brian Smith stated that Deer Trail had some damage from Roadrunner
Tours horses.
C. Status of Sage Trail (trailhead and re-routing near west end)- Tracy Orr reported that the
Village’s mower is down so we haven’t set that trail yet. Brian Smith suggested using a
skidsteer to make the trail. A single track is all that would be needed. Hogan Koesis
reported that he and some others are clearing trees on the Eliot Barker Trail. Hogan
Koesis also reported that the upper Sage Trail with erosion problems is a top priority for
the Resort along with other greenbelt trails that need repairs. Their goal is to get them
ready before Memorial Day. Charles Earhart asked Tracy Orr about the kiosk at the
bottom of Sage Trail and whether it has been approved. Tracy Orr stated she would ask
Planning and Zoning about it and would let Charles Earhart know the answer.
VII. New Business
A. Enchanted Circle Trail proposal and assessment-Brian and Carolyn Smith attended the
last Enchanted Circle Trail meeting in Taos. Brian Smith was asked to have the Trails
Committee conduct survey reports of the trails assigned to him to see if these trails are
viable hiking/biking routes. Maps were handed out along with a list of the Angel Fire
Trail System. Brian Smith asked if Committee members could hike these trails and
report their findings on the survey. The survey can be found online and the report
should be submitted online.
B. Frank Young Trail to Sports Complex-Tracy Orr reported that the funding for the trail
from Camino Grande to the blinking light may no longer be available. She is waiting to
find out. If that is the case, then Tracy Orr wants to pursue either a trail from Bobcat to
Sage Trail along the highway or the Frank Young Trail from the Solar Trail to the Sports
Complex.
VIII. Reports and Updates
A. Sendero North-Nothing to report
B. Sendero South-Nothing to report
C. Bobcat-Nothing to report

E. Lady Slipper-Hogan Koesis spoke about the unused greenbelt areas that could be used
to connect Lady Slipper to Coyote. He is planning a path that would connect the two.
He also stated that the Resort will be working on new signage utilizing equipment the
Forest Service has for making signs.
