Shared Pubic Art experiences that are interactive, provide togetherness and share a sense of community. 1) Cooperative Phonograph - The Cooperative Phonograph uses Thomas Edison's forgotten audio technology from 1877 in an all-new type of sculpted experience which is regarded as magic by the current generation of digital natives. http://funexhibits.com/projects/cooperative-phonograph/ 2) Ferrofluid Magnetoscope - Users control magnets to achieve beautifully flowing liquid structures. http://funexhibits.com/projects/magnetoscope/ APPROVAL OF MINUTES Amend to include members of the committees: * Promotions/Marketing Committee - John and Allison City of Ann Arbor Page 1 Ann Arbor Public Art Commission Meeting Minutes September 5, 2018 * CIP Committee - David, Connie, Colleen * Youth Involvement Committee- Connie and Deb Approved with changes SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS Mary Thiefels - Tree Town Mural Founder. Discussion on broken glass replacements at the Allmendinger park mural.Community involvement in this neighborhood is important and is always a great success. Desire for the City to continue to develop maintenance plans for all art pieces throughout the city. Motion - Ann Arbor Public Art Commission support the City increasing its efforts to preserve and maintain all artwork within the City; in particular the Allmendinger Park Mural, where there is history of vandalism. Recommend solar lighting in this area to deter future vandalism. Recommendation - That maintenance schedules and reserved funding for current and future projects throughout the City be addressed. Deb Polich - President/CEO of The Arts Alliance. Presentation on the PowerArt finalists and the third phase of PowerArt project via the Downtown Development Authority. Public art and design project help people be more aware of public art and design. The use of the wrap art on the power boxes eliminates boxes being littered with graffiti and handbills. This project allows for the creation of art on a canvass for local artists to showcase their current artwork as a two dimensional piece or create a new piece. Recommendation - Boxes are popular and holding up well and help to reduce the need for City staff to maintain the boxes.There is still a need to set a plan to finish the remaining; as there is interest from the local neighborhoods to have these same features. Maintenance Plan - Power Boxes are assets within the community and the City should be sure that maintenance plans are incorporated into the inventory. And make an effort to train other staff members about these art pieces. Artists do not want them damaged, but want them respected as art. Inventory plan should also list City unit responsible for maintenance. NEW BUSINESS City of Ann Arbor Page 2 Ann Arbor Public Art Commission Meeting Minutes September 5, 2018 2017-2018 Annual Report Review. End of the fiscal year report due to City Council. MOTION: Accept the 2017-18 Annual Report as presented. OLD BUSINESS Approved as presented REPORT FROM STAFF Presented REPORT FROM COMMITTEES Nomination Committee will survey current commissioners to determine and evaluate current leadership and appoint a new chair and vice chair for next term. MOTION: To create committee and to appoint Commissioners Crawley, Mexicotte and Kotarski. CIP Committee - No new update to share at this time. CIP process just beginning and staff are aware of projects to bring forward for potential city project enhancements. Promotions/Marketing Committee Committee - Changing direction to take a step back and evaluate current collection before sharing with the public. Identify plaques and walking tours through the City, etc. Youth Involvement Committee - Welcome Debra Mexicotte our newest member to the Ann Arbor Pubic Art Commission!
