Add - Nominating Committee Report and Adoption of 2019 Meeting
Dates to the agenda
Welcome New Commissioners - Mary Thiefels - Public artist born and
raised in Ann Arbor and would like to being an artist voice to the
commission as well as estectic voice to the commission. CUrrently the
Director of the Neutral Zone as the Art Director and also owner of
TreeTown Murals to the Art Commission.
Jonah Copi - Looking for ways to get involved in CIty Government.
Originally from San Francisco background in arts and current working in
real estate and property and looking for way to get back into the arts.
Introduction of Councilmember Ali Ramlawi - CM Ramlawi has
expressed an interest in becoming the liaison for the commission.
Excited to become part of the commission and very supportive of the arts
within the City. Misconceptions of art within in the city but we cannot let
this stop us from getting behind the arts and make it a priority to continue
to celebrate the arts in Ann Arbor.

SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS
Mike Gould postponed the Arbor Lase presentation due to a full schedule
with other projects and sends a thank you to the commission for keeping
Arbor Lase in mind.
NEW BUSINESS
Nominating Committee - Committee circulated a survey to all
commissioners gauging needs and most important aspect of leadership
within the commission. Important were knowing and understanding
processes and procedures. Traits and skills necessary were teambuilding
and reaching a wider community.
Newly Elected Officers - Allison Buck, Chair and Deb Mexicotte,
Vice Chair
Adoption of 2019 Meeting Dates - Staff will review and make adjustments
to the schedule; including scheduling a date for the annual retreat.

OLD BUSINESS
REPORT FROM STAFF
Stadium Bridges - We now have an additional damaged panel on the
Arbor Winds piece. Staff has located a vendor in Germany to reproduce
these panels - due to size and uniqueness of the panels it has been
difficult to find a local manufactured in the states. Panels to be shipped to
the City in mid December. This asset has been damaged twice and the
commission request that staff reachout to the University of Michigan re
their willingness to partner with the city to help maintain public art within
the city, perhaps installation/use of cameras. Continued replacement of
these glass panels will be costly, city needs to begin to look at

replacement alternatives is needed in the future.
Jewett Memorial - The memorial will be relocated to its permanent
location on the eastside of the Farmers Market as part of the DDA Fifth
Ave project.
Public Art Inventory - Request to HR to hire part-time staff to support the
efforts in identifying the all the public art assets within the city. Other
groups within the city are currently working on projects like this;
commission should partner with them in the future.

CIP Work Group - Update on recommendations re the art selection
process. Originally produced last year and approved by AAPAC and
reviewed again in October. Attached are additional recommendations for
the artwork selection process
Promotions/Marketing Group - Continue to work on art inventory and
redesign and update of the public art webpage
Youth Involvement Group - Propose dual approach to the goal of
involving youth in public art

OLD BUSINESS
REPORT FROM STAFF
East Stadium Boulevard Bridges - Arbor Winds had a 2nd damaged glass piece on the
west end of E Stadium. Catherine Widgery working with staff to fabricate (2) new glass
panel pieces, which will be shipped to Ann Arbor.
Staff Assignment - Reach out to UM to gauge their interest in working with the City to
install a camera in this area.
Jewett Memorial Update - The Jewett chairs will be moved from the Fourth Ave location
to their permanent home near Fifth Ave; a plaque will be mounted onto the seatwall
behind the chairs. Maggie Jewett is reviewing the wording of the plaque, which will be
ordered and delivered within six weeks. Engineering staff will follow up with the artist to
figure out logistics of the move and Public Works will do the actual concrete drilling to
anchor the chairs and plaque.

Art Inventory - Staff working with HR to hire a temporary to complete the art inventory.
Employee will update location of all city art pieces, take new photos, define ROW
locations/markers, and add/update maintenance responsibilities.
