Athens in Motion Commission Education & Communications Subcommittee MINUTES – SEPTEMBER 23, 2022 Location: 10-13-2022 AiMC Education & Communications Subcommittee - YouTube Attendees • Teresa Friedlander, Chair • Daniel Sizemore • Shirelle Hallum • Craig Topple • Randy Halstead • Dale Van Cantfort • Scott Long • Blaine Van Note Welcome ● Teresa called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm. UGA Bike/Ped Safety Day • Randy, Daniel, Shirelle, and Teresa were present representing Athens in Motion. Our table was conveniently next to Bike Athens’ table. • Randy observed that the event was well attended and the students seemed interested in cycling but there were few who actually biked around town or even campus. The reluctance to use bikes was due to lack of lighting, disappearing bike lanes, and safety concerns. Lots of students walk places. • Daniel agreed we should participate in future UGA events. There were several students who were quite interested in biking more and some who were just collecting T-shirts. Most were receptive to what Athens in Motion is doing. • Teresa was lamenting the lack of a QR code to link with AiM projects and other resources. Prince Avenue/Porchfest • AiM planned to have a table strategically located at Porchfest, but that was not done because Teresa was out of town. The Prince Avenue User Group, along with ACC staff and Jacobs Design consultants, collected feedback and provided information to Porchfest attendees and others. • ACC and Jacobs have designed a comprehensive data collection program which will compare traffic counts, speeds, and diversions pre- and post-pilot. Logos for AiM • Work on that has been on hold due to other priorities. Daniel will forward a survey to further narrow down the options.
