1 Community Tree Council (CTC) Meeting Minutes Meeting Date: June 14th, 2021 Location: ACC Cisco Webex online meeting, You Tube Streaming Link: https://youtu.be/SmGJiILabtw In Attendance - Members: Rodney Walters, Holly Campbell, Patrick Perry, Edith Jackson, Lea Clark, Pam Knox, Shawn Doonan, Mary Songster, Jessie McClellan, Joe Perloff, Phil Hale, Victoria Goff, Ernie Cox, Mary Attaway (A Quorum Was Present) Staff, Guests, and Ex-Officio Members: Aaron Hall (ACC Planning Arborist), Russell Edwards (ACC Commissioner), Stacee Farrell (KACCB Executive Director) Absent: Joseph Bates Call to Order, Introductions, and Welcome: Joe Perloff 4:00 - 4:05 ● Welcome everyone Housekeeping (Secretary) Rodney Walters 4:10 - 4:15 ● Roll Call Sign in (3 minutes): Attending members and guests were listed on the attendance list ● Action Item: Vote to approve May 2021 CTC meeting minutes and the May 2021 CTC Committee Meeting Minutes: o A motion was made and seconded and approved by unanimous vote to approve the May, 2021 CTC meeting minutes and Committees Meeting minutes as corrected. Treasurer’s Report (Information – 5 minutes) Pam Knox 4:10 – 4:15 ● The June 2021 treasurer’s report was submitted and is attached at the end of this document. CTC Business (Executive and Steering Committees, Work Groups Joe Perloff 4:15 – 5:00 ● CTC Executive Committee o Welcome to Jessie McClellan as president elect o Will start meeting in person as a council in August o Feedback from Public Information was provided by Rodney ● CTC Steering Committee (Executive Committee plus Committee Chairs): 4:35 – 4:40 {Joe (chair), Mary (president elect), Pam, Rodney, Mary Attaway, Mary Songster, Edith Jackson}  Educational Short and/or Forester’s Corner: o Holly Provided a Tree Identification presentation o Suggestion was made to post these Tree ID videos on the CTC webpage, with different ways to search it (“Tree Smart”) etc.  New Member Interview Work Group: 4:40 - 4:45 {Shawn (Leader), Pam, Edith, Rodney, Mary Attaway} o **After a brief discussion, a motion was made, seconded, and approved to begin advertising to fill one open CTC member position.  2  CTC Trees for Tomorrow Work Group: 4:45 - 4:50 {Phil (Leader), Mary Attaway, Joe P., Rodney, Pam, Shawn} o No discussion  Grants Work Group and Fundraising: 4:50 - 5:00 {Mary Attaway, Stacee, and Edith} o Pam and Edith are working on a Grants spreadsheet to track grant applications and potential opportunities.  Landmark and Champion Tree Work Group: 5:00 – 5:05 {Shawn (leader), Edith, Joe P., Lea, Phil, Jessie, Patrick, Mary Songster, Rodney} o No discussion  Larry Morris memorial Planting Work Group: 5:05 - 5:10 {Shawn (Leader), Jessie, Joe P, Lea, Phil, Patrick} o * After a discussion, a motion was made, seconded, and approved by unanimous vote to complete the paperwork and apply for the Adopt Athens Program of Athens for the Larry Morris tree planting area. This will establish the CTC as the entity who cares for the site for a period of at least two years. o A commemorative tree will be planted for Larry Morris in Winterville by the Winterville Tree Council o His celebration of life will be held on November 13th at Flinchum’s Phoenix ● CTC Committee Reports (Information and Discussion): Joe Perloff 5:05 - 5:25  Promotions Committee {Mary Attaway (Chair), Joe Perloff, Phil Hale, Jessie, Tori} o * A motion was made, seconded, and approved by unanimous vote to amend the previous passes motion to spend $200 on t-shirts to send that $200 on nametags for CTC members instead. o Not meeting next week and will be catching up on assigned tasks  CTC Policy Committee: {Mary Songster (Chair), Lea Clark, Rodney Walters, Aaron Hall} o Update on policy language – Planning language is being drafted  Education committee: { Edith Jackson (Chair), Stacee Farrell, Lea Clark, Shawn Doonan, Seth Hawkins} o Fall Event- TREE ID ON THE GREENWAY - The Winterville Tree Council will be partnering with the CTC on this. - Will be meeting with Randy Smith (Director of Sandy Creek Nature Center to plan the event. o Will provide a survey for the Educational Shorts to determine what topics people want Parking Lot Items: 5:25 - 5:29 Meeting Wrap up – (1 minute) Presiding Chair 5:29 - 5:30 * A motion was made, seconded, and approved by unanimous vote to adjourn the meeting  3 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Athens Community Tree Council Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer’s Report: June 14, 2021 submitted by Pam Knox Money Market Account Beginning Balance as of 5/10/2021 $10,026.48 Interest 5/31/2021 0.17 Ending balance as of 6/14/2021 $10,026.65 Checking Account Starting balance 5/10/2021 $1,116.11 Ending balance 6/14/2021 $1,116.11 PayPal Account AccTrees@athenstreecouncil.org Beginning balance 5/10/2021 $1,455.25 Ending balance 6/14/2021 $1,455.25 Synovus has updated their web site and we are working to take care of that transition.
