1 Community Tree Council (CTC) Meeting Minutes Meeting Date: November 8th, 2021 Location: Webex online at: https://youtu.be/ZSuGsyxfgYI In Attendance - Members: Rodney Walters, Patrick Perry, Phil Hale, Victoria Goff, Edith Jackson, Jessica McClellan, Joe Perloff, Shawn Doonan, Pam Knox, Mary Songster, Ernie Cox, Mary Attaway (A Quorum Was Present) Staff, Guests, and Ex-Officio Members: Lea Clarke (Georgia Forestry Commission), Eric Caubo (ACC Planning Arborist), Stacee Farrell (Executive Director – Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful) Absent: Holly Campbell, Call to Order, Introductions, and Welcome: Joe Perloff 4:00 - 4:05 ● Welcome everyone Housekeeping (Secretary) Rodney Walters 4:10 - 4:15 ● Roll Call Sign in (3 minutes): Attending members and guests were listed on the attendance list ● Action Item: Vote to approve August 2021 CTC meeting minutes: o A motion was made and seconded and approved by unanimous vote to approve the October, 2021 CTC meeting minute. ● Announcement: Sustainability Tree Planting Project: (Details ACC Gov Sustainability page) o Dudley Park Tree Planting Event on Friday 11/19, 9-11:30AM https://uga.givepulse.com/event/263576 o Dudley Park Tree Planting Event on Sunday 11/21, 1-3PM https://uga.givepulse.com/event/263579 Treasurer’s Report (Information – 5 minutes) Pam Knox 4:10 – 4:15 - $95 in donations were received from the Tree ID on the Greenway event - 17 cents in interest was accrued from the money market account - The November Treasurer’s Report is attached at the end of the minutes CTC Business (Executive and Steering Committees, Work Groups Joe Perloff 4:15 – 4:30 ● CTC Executive Committee {Joe (chair), Jessie McClellan (president elect), Pam, Rodney} o Discussion Item: CTC should discuss how/where/when to meet for our December meeting.  Holiday Party will be held at Mary Attaway’s place on Monday, Dec. 13 at 6:00. Phil will bring Barbeque. Mary A. and Pam will bring chili. Side dishes will be potluck. Spouses and children are welcome. Please do not bring any dogs. o Joe Perloff will send the annual CTC report to the Mayor and Commission. ● CTC Steering Committee (Executive Committee plus Committee Chairs): 4:30 – 5:00 {Joe (chair), Jessie McClellan (president elect), Pam, Rodney, Mary Attaway, Mary Songster, Edith Jackson} 2 o Athens resident, Willa Farmbrough, expressed to the CTC that there is a great need for elderly residents in Athens-Clarke County to have a means of finding assistance for the extraordinarily high cost of tree work (this message was communicated through the CTC secretary)  Possible avenues and partnerships that may help this issue to be addressed include: - The ACC Policy Committee - Athens Land Trust - The Council on Aging - The Rotary Club - The United Way - The Chamber of Commerce - Synovous Bank  New Member Interview Work Group: {Shawn (Leader), Pam, Edith, Rodney, Mary Attaway}  The new appointees didn’t make it on the November 2nd Mayor & Commission agenda. - Rodney will follow up to see if this has made onto the Mayor and Commission agenda for December  Educational Short and/or Forester’s Briefing:  Landmark and Champion Tree Work Group: {Shawn (leader), Edith, Joe P., Lea, Phil, Jessie, Patrick, Mary Songster, Rodney}  No discussion  CTC Trees for Tomorrow Work Group: {Phil (Leader), Mary Attaway, Joe P., Rodney, Pam, Shawn}  No discussion  Grants Work Group and Fundraising: 4:50 - 5:00  No discussion  Larry Morris Memorial Planting Work Group: 5:05 - 5:10 {Shawn (Leader), Jessie, Joe P, Lea, Phil, Patrick}  The CTC Adopt Athens application has received all of the necessary signatures and is headed to Mayor & Commission for formal approval and the planting process may proceed. - Planting will most likely be able to take place in January - Phil and Holly will bring 2 trees and will look into placement of understory shrubs - Shawn will ask neighborhood about the placement of the sign - Mary S. will make laminated signs ● CTC Committee Reports (Information and Discussion): Joe Perloff 5:05 - 5:25  Promotions Committee {Mary Attaway (Chair), Joe Perloff, Phil Hale, Jessie, Tori} No discussion  CTC Policy Committee: {Mary Songster (Chair), Rodney Walters, Patrick Perry} No discussion  Education committee: { Edith Jackson (Chair), Stacee Farrell, Lea Clark, Shawn Doonan, Seth Hawkins}  A summary of the of the 10/30 tree ID event was given. - 35 people registered and 28 people attended (attendance could have been greater, but there were some issues with the registration link and the Flagpole ad. - Possible future avenues to market event include: past participation lists; e-mail sign up lists, check box on donation page asking if they would like to be notified for upcoming events; Master Gardener and Naturalists lists; word of mouth, County Extension  Invitation for anyone interested in joining Education Committee meeting  Next meeting will be held via WebEx. On Monday November 15th, 3:00 - 3:30.
