The Athens-Clarke County Historic Preservation Commission met and considered the
following items at a public meeting on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 5:30p.m. The
meeting was held at 120 W. Dougherty Street, Athens, Georgia.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Bobbie Epting, Maelyn Ehrman, Ted Rossier, George Runkle,
Ellen Walker, Worth VanLinden – Chair
MEMBERS ABSENT: None
STAFF PRESENT: Amber Eskew, Misty Carlisle, Molly Hackney-DePriest, Austin

CALL TO ORDER:
1. Determination of Quorum: Quorum present
2. Introduction of staff reports and all other documents submitted to the Historic
Preservation Commission at this meeting into the official record: Motion to
receive all documents into the official record passed unanimously 5:0. Ms.
Epting – motion; Mr. Runkle – 2nd
3. Adoption of the minutes from the November 20, 2024 agenda review: Motion to
adopt minutes passed unanimously 5:0. Ms. Walker – Motion; Ms. Epting
– 2nd
4. Adoption of the minutes from the November 20, 2024 Historic Preservation
Commission meeting: Motion to adopt minutes passed unanimously 5:0. Mr.
Runkle – motion; Mr. Rossier – 2nd

ramps. Railings at steps are wanted for safety.

Action Comments Only: requested comments for
proposal to construct four new townhouses on
rear portion of property. Slab foundation is
discouraged. Discussed foundation to look like it
is on bricks. Discussed scale and massing and
level of detail.
At this time Mr. Jackson advised that there was an option to move to
reconsider hearing the request for COA-2024-10-2163 as the applicant was
now present. The Commission declined to reconsider and stated the reason for
denial was not because they did not get to speak to the agent.
OTHER BUSINESS:
1. Strategic Plan Update Ms. Ehrman was able to get list of other HPCs
for whole state; State Conference will likely be
in Athens this Fall so likely not a regional
training in spring.
2. Designation Committee Report Committee met the 18th, will be seeing a
proposal to modify the West Downtown District
in January with an open house December 19th.
3. Education Committee Report Committee did not meet; topics and draft
articles for annual report were discussed via
email
4. Miscellaneous Announcements No absences for the December hearing
anticipated; one COA on agenda

Athens, GA.

• An agenda review will be held prior to the advertised hearing at 5:00 pm prior to the start of the advertised
hearing. This is open to the public but will not include any public comment opportunities and no decisions
about pending item or properties will be made at the agenda review.
• Comment on any item may be sent by email to planning@accgov.com prior to noon on November 19th.
• Comment up to 3 minutes in length may given at the appropriate time for any agenda item during the
hearing.
