MINUTES Human Relations Committee Wednesday, January 24, 2024 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM City Hall 301B ACCGov Staff in Attendance: 1. Dr. Remy Epps – Inclusion Officer 2. Chairperson’s Update and Report  Committee accepted the December 2023 minutes.  Chair acknowledged the committee’s dedication and thanked the group for their continued hard work. He also shared that he appreciated the time he spent as the chairperson, and looks forward to supporting the person that will assume the role.  Dr. Epps thanked the chair and vice-chair for the time they spent in their roles. She also provided an outline of her expectations of the successors of the chair and vice chair roles.  The committee opened nominations for the role of the chair o Dr. Epps provided the group with the roles & responsibilities of the chairperson. o The committee voted Ke’Marcis Howard as chairperson.  The committee opened nominations for the role of vice chair. o Danielle Gillmer was voted in as vice chair by the committee  Discussion began on the proposed change of quorum to the bylaws. Box 1868 ∙ Athens, Georgia 30603 (706) 613-3015 ∙ Email: inclusionoffice@accgov.com www.accgov.com  Dr. Epps provide updates from the Inclusion Office: o She reiterated the importance of all communication related to the HRC and it’s members come through ACCGov emails moving forward. o She shared her gratitude for the support the committee gave during the MLK Day of Service events.  No public comment on old business. Old Business  The committee discussed details about the upcoming community education session.  The committee discussed working the education session in shifts because quorum cannot be met due the event not being an official HRC meeting. The shift times the group determined was 5pm - 6pm, and 6pm - 7pm.  The Inclusion office provided the committee with their plans for snacks and refreshments for the education session.  Dr. Epps provided updates on the site interpreter. She shared that the packets for the event will be translated in Spanish.  Dr. Epps provided updates on the Juneteenth RFP.  Meeting adjourned at 6:42 P.M. AGENDA Human Relations Commission Wednesday, January 24, 2024 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM ACC Gov City Hall - Room 301B (301 College Ave. Athens, GA 30601) • Call to Order by the Chairperson • Acceptance of the December 2023 Minutes • Elect 2024 Officers • Discuss Bylaw Amendments o Amend Article VIII, Section 1, Paragraph 6. ▪ Currently reads: “There must be at least eight (8) of the fifteen (15) members present at a meeting to constitute a quorum for conducting business, including voting on any matters.” ▪ Suggested new language: “A simple majority of the voting members of the Board shall constitute a quorum for conducting business, including voting on any matters.” • Inclusion Office Update and Report • Public Comment on Old Business Pursuant to the commission bylaws, a public comment list shall be provided prior to this meeting. Those wishing to address the commission will be asked to provide a first name and last name.
