MINUTES Human Relations Committee Wednesday, August 28, 2024 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM Planning Auditorium ACCGov Staff in Attendance: 1. Dr. Remy Epps – Inclusion Officer 2. Box 1868 ∙ Athens, Georgia 30603 (706) 613-3015 ∙ Email: inclusionoffice@accgov.com www.accgov.com • Meeting called to order at 6:07 P.M. • People & Belonging provided updates to the committee. o Department name change and reason behind it. o Introduced HRC manual that provides the committee with resources of workplan and focus area ideas. The manual also provided insight into the purpose of the HRC and how the committee can make an impact on the community, and it‘s role within the government. o Upcoming events, tools, and resources including the Inclusive language guide • HRC member advised about the potential of the community helping guide the committee’s work plan and focus areas. Public comment given on Old Business Old Business • Dr. Epps shared information on the HRC workplan. o She shared the importance of the committee to establish a time to spend time to work through the focus areas and scope of the FY24/FY25 workplan. o She shared the FY23/FY24 workplan as well as some successes and challenges of the workplan. This presentation highlighted the previous focus areas that included access and accessibility to the NDO, community outreach and relationship building, and policy recommendation. Box 1868 ∙ Athens, Georgia 30603 (706) 613-3015 ∙ Email: inclusionoffice@accgov.com www.accgov.com o She also provided the committee with some recommendations moving forward when creating their workplan.  Set clear, achievable goals  Enhance community outreach  Revisit key policy & processes • Committee member inquired about previous research on the NDO filing period. • PAB will share non-profit list-serv with committee members. • Committee member asked how the committee could survey the community to gather input on needs and gaps. • Committee member asked what the process is when it comes to tabling at community events. • The committee began discussion on focus areas. Starting by speaking about what was important to each member present.
