a. Memphis advice:
i. The community MUST have a good working relationship with the Board.
If the community doesn't trust the Board, it’ll halt progress
ii. Independent structure through the board
b. Discussed board’s experience thus far
c. Current things Board is working on/goals for the future
d. What does success look like?
i. Taking stressors/overburdened away from law enforcement (LE) and
allowing them to do their jobs
ii. Measurable/obtainable goals (for LE or the board?) What’s the quality of
interactions between LE/community?
iii. AADM has taken community complaints about LE for many years and
doesn’t want to be the middle person anymore. Wants the Board to be the
mediator
iv. Empower people to be heard and have their voices valued
e. Questions from the audience
i. Explain the role of the Auditor/Monitor role
ii. The budget (Assistant City Manager Josh Edward answered) and
contracting costs with NACOLE
iii. Where will this new position be housed? Especially with the transition in
the auditor’s office
iv. Remember the elderly and the Spanish-speaking community
v. Why nine people?
