2008 LARP (Local Assistance Road Program)
Department: Public Services Department
caption2: Approve the list of streets proposed for submittal to the
Georgia Department of Transportation for inclusion in the
2008 LARP.
Background: In accordance with Georgia Department of Transportation
Commissioner Harold Linnenkohl's letter dated July 16,
2007, we have prepared a list of roads as candidates for the
2008 LARP. The list is being sent to Augusta Utilities and
the Engineering Department for review and is subject to
minor revision based on their input on ongoing projects.
Analysis: The Georgia Department of Transportation will review these
roads and make a final determination as to which roads will
be resurfaced, based on needs and funding availability.
Financial Impact: The resurfacing will be let to bid by the Georgia Department
of Transportation. Any required patching will be the
responsibility of the City of Augusta and will be performed
by the Maintenance Division. The resurfacing costs will be
borne by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Alternatives: None Recommended.
Recommendation: Approve the list of streets proposed for submittal to the
Georgia Department of Transportation for inclusion in the

Broad Street Sewer Replacement
Department: Utilities
caption2: Approve award of the Broad Street Sewer Replacement to
Beams Construction in the amount of $317,885.
Background: The sanitary sewer along the north side of Broad Street
between 5th & 6th Streets is very shallow, as a result the
business along this stretch of Broad Street have had
problematic sewer service for some time. This shallow
sewer is also inhibiting development. Currently the sewer
depth in Broad Street near the entrance to the Museum is not
of sufficient depth to serve a proposed development. An
evaluation has been performed by AUD to determine what
would be involved in lowering the sewer by running a new
line. The best alternative that has emerged from this
evaluation is to reconstruct a new sewer line in the same
location as the existing line, but at a lower depth. The project
has been bid with Beams Construction emerging as the low
bidder in the amount of $317,885.
Analysis: The construction of approximately 600 linear feet of new
sewer line along Broad Street, between 5th and 6th Streets,
will allow for better sewer service to the existing businesses
along Broad Street, as well as foster development.
Financial Impact: The total cost for the construction of the sanitary sewer line
is $317,885. Funds are available in the renewal & extension
budget 507043420-5425210 / 80700055-5425210.
Alternatives: Leave the existing sewer line in place and not construct a
new line.
Recommendation:
It is recommended to: Approve award of the Broad Street
